No one is like Daemon Black.

When he set out to prove his feelings for me, he wasn’t fooling around. Doubting him isn’t something I’ll do again, and now that we’ve made it through the rough patches, well… There’s a lot of spontaneous combustion going on.

But even he can’t protect his family from the danger of trying to free those they love.

After everything, I’m no longer the same Katy. I’m different… And I’m not sure what that will mean in the end. When each step we take in discovering the truth puts us in the path of the secret organization responsible for torturing and testing hybrids, the more I realize there is no end to what I’m capable. The death of someone close still lingers, help comes from the most unlikely source, and friends will become the deadliest of enemies, but we won’t turn back. Even if the outcome will shatter our worlds forever.

Together we’re stronger… and they know it.

Oh no.Oh no,no,no.Noooooooooooooooooo...........

Just give me a moment.....

I need to calm down!!!

Sorry,where are my manners???

Hello Readers!!!

Why am I in this condition???

I'll have to start from the beginning!!

------------------------------------------------------

Yesterday morning---

Okay,all of you,....stay calm,...stay cool,....take deep breaths....

Here we go.....

DAEMON BLACK IS BACK!!!!

Yes,yes I know it's TRUE!!!

Hmmmmmmmmmmm..................."I'm just a fool,a fool in love with you....."

Ouch...did someone just chuck a shoe at me???

Yeah, yeah!!I'll stop singing and get back to the story!!
>

The Storyline--

The story starts exactly where it was left off in Onyx!!Adam is dead and Dawson's back!!But nothing is the same anymore.Katy and Daemon's whole world has gone topsy-turvy!!

Dawson maybe back but he is only a shell of the man he used to be.The DOD still have Beth and Dawson's going crazy. He is ready to do anything to get Beth back. And that means rushing to the DOD headquarters if he has to.

But Daemon had already lost his brother once. He's not going to lose him a second time. So,he is constantly baby-sitting his brother.

And then Daemon decides to take Katy out to dinner on a date while Dee babysits Dawson.

But,Daemon gets a call in middle that Dawson's somehow made a run for it.Telling Ordering Katy to go home,he goes after Dawson!!

But Katy being Katy, follows Daemon and finds the brothers in the middle of a fight.

“Here was the problem.Dawson wouldn’t stop.Deep down Daemon knew and understood why and would do the same thing. It was hypocritical to the umpteenth degree to demand someone else do otherwise. There had to be a compromise.

And there was one. “ Let us help you.”

And so Katy promised that they would help Dawson to find Beth.

But Dawson’s not their only problem!!

Blake is back too!!

Yes Readers, you heard me right.Blake’s back and he wants their help.He knows where Beth is.It’s the same place where his friend Chris is being kept.He needs their help and they need his.

And Dee,the sweet bubbly girl, has turned into a cold and unfeeling bitch. She wants to kill Blake.

Dawson will not let anyone kill Blake as only he can lead to Beth.

And then there are the Elders who can outcast Daemon for being with a human.

And then there is the chance that all of this is a trap. A big trap for Daemon and Katy set by the DOD.

Readers, you must have heard of the saying---‘Between the devil and the deep blue sea.’

“We’d been blackmailed—trapped again, and what could we do? Refuse to go along with Blake and be turned over? Or trust someone who had already proven he wasn’t worthy of such a thing?

God,we were screwed to the tenth degree.”

And so Readers, welcome to the crazy world of Opal.

And welcoming you is Daemon(of course)---

“He immediately started charming my mom until she was nothing but a gooey puddle in the middle of the foyer.
He loved her new haircut. She got one?I guessed her hair did look different.Like she’d washed it or something.Daemon told her that the diamond earrings were beautiful. The rug below the steps was really nice. And that leftover scent of mystery dinner—because I still hadn’t figured out what she fed me—smelled divine. He admired nurses worldwide, and by that point,I couldn’t keep my eye rolls to a minimum.

Daemon was ridiculous.”

Yes,**sigh** That’s Daemon,ridiculously charming.

“Slowly he looked at me,and then he bent down, planting his lips on mine. The kiss was unexpected—deep and forceful.Stunned I just stood there as I pulled back, nipping at my bottom lip.

"Tasty,Kitten." Then he spun, planted his right hand on Blake’s shoulder, knocking him back into a locker. “See you around,” he said, smirking.”

Yes,**sigh again**.That’s Daemon,ridiculously possessive.

“I loathe Blake. He used me and was ready to turn me over to Daedalus. He killed Adam. There’s only a teeny tiny bit of me that can actually tolerate him.How can you even be any bit jealous of him?”

“He wants you.”

“Oh,dear God,he does not.”

“Whatever.I’m a guy.I know what other guys are thinking."

Told you,ridiculously jealous.

"Daemon spoke in his language. The lyrical quality of his words made no sense to me.

“What did you say?” I asked.

There’s really no translation for it,” he said, “but the closest human words would be,you are beautiful to me.”

And....ridiculously romantic.

THE PERFECT PACKAGE!!

And together they make the perfect couple!!

------------------------------------------------

I was so,so in love with this book.

And then,the unthinkable happened.

Warning Readers—CLIFFHANGER!!CLIFFHANGER!!CLIFFHANGER!!

Be prepared for your heart to be torn out!!!

Hell no,I am NOT adding any spoilers!!!

Why??

Because I suffered.....a lot!!

And I want you to experience the pain which I felt!!

Does that make me evil???

Mwahahahahahaha.....

You bet it does!!

Ta-Ta,Readers!!Enjoy!!

Before anything else,
DAEMON, I LOVE YOU SO MUCH, OKAY? I DARE YOU TO BE MORE PERFECT!

Now...

I intended to write a review for this, BUT, I CAN'T...
First, it's impossible to write one without abusing the spoiler tag.

And second, I JUST CAN'T

I've been through a whirlwind of emotions.
*I SMILED.
*I LAUGHED.
*I GIGGLED.
*I FELL IN LOVE.
*I CRIED.
*I GOT ANGRY.
*I HELD ON TO MY SEAT.
*I FELT KATY'S PAIN.
*I FELL IN LOVE WITH DAEMON EVEN MORE.
*I GOT PISSED.
*AND THEN I CRIED SOME MORE.

And THAT ENDING:

There's one question I wanna ask Ms. Jennifer Armentrout: WHY????

Holy bananas and mother of nasty cliffhangers, why WHY WHY DID THIS HAPPEN??I'm hurt and angry and shocked and confused and cursing shamelessly because I.will.end.you.Blake.you.sick.bastard.And I will enjoy it.

“I tilted my head back against his shoulder, wondering how he'd gone from douchebag extraordinaire to this...this guy who still infuriated me but also constantly surprised and amazed me.
To this guy I'd fallen madly in love with.”

You didn't expect things to go smoothly for Daemon and Katy, did you?Yes my babies are finally together, arguing and driving each other crazy and kissing and making me puke rainbows, but the truth is they couldn't get a break.Breaking into top secret governmental facilities, visiting underground clubs ran by the teenage mafia, striking deals with the devil(s) and training with onyx?Sure thing.Going on a date like normal people in love? Not so much. When the lines between right and wrong were blurry and every decision they made would lead them to their downfall,Katy and her Luxen friends had to make peace with what they lost and fight to keep what they still had.
“You really shouldn’t trust a soul in this game. Not when everyone has something to gain or lose.”

More mutants.More surprises.More action.More agony.More emotional turmoil.Jennifer L. Armentrout definitely knows how to make readers hold their breath and pray that shit is not going to happen (yeah wishful thinking,I know).I dreaded what every page was about to bring, there was constantly a knot in my stomach and bile rising in my throat, the anxiety was about to consume me.I cursed in a way I would make Deamon proud and wanted to toss my e-reader from the balcony (which of course I didn't for obvious reasons, but still) and I came up with some very creative ways to torture Blake, but nothing was enough.I never liked him,in fact I loathed him since Onyx but in this one,his constant presence and the way he stalked Katy made me wanna do some nasty things to him,and not the fun stuff.

Katy has come a long way since the first book, and I kind of admire her for that.Sure she can be insecure and paranoid and stubborn as a mule, but thank God I don't want to strangle her anymore.
“I had most of the body parts but was missing vital pieces to make me real.I didn't know who I was anymore.”

I love Dee and Matthew, even Andrew has grown on me,and Dawson is my second favorite, only topped by Daemon,my oh-so-cute-but-sexy baby.He always made me blush and giggle, even when he was an overprotective caveman.

“I love you, Katy. Always have. Always will.”

I don't think Jennifer L. Armentrout loves her readers though. If she did,I wouldn't ramble like a madwoman. She wouldn't put me through Hell and leave me starving for more. And since I need food books to survive,it's time I stop babbling and go read Origin. You should too.

i finally got my hands on the next two books, so im beyond happy to continue binge reading this series. and i have to say, this is probably the best installment of the series so far! which is shocking for a pretty major reason.

this ends on a massive cliffhanger… and i LOVED it. dangle me over that edge, JLA, because i thought it was cleverly done and really hit me emotionally. i thought everything in this book worked up to that ending moment soooo perfectly. but as someone who once wanted to start a petition to ban cliffhangers from being used as a literary device, i dont even know who i am anymore. boy, this series sure has changed me. lol.

i really cant wait to immediately start origin. although, i read the back cover blurb and im nervous. sounds like my ship kaemon is headed for some troubled waters?? like, what is this ‘new information’ that alludes to them being on opposing sides?? i just want my babes to happy and healthy and in love for the rest of their paranormal lives. so stressed out rn, tbh. pls send prayers.

Sigh. Guys, I decided not to do one of my 'normal' reviews and instead do a '20 reasons why' thingy. I just LOVE this book so much, I can't even write a proper review.

So here's 20 reasons why you should read OPAL: (not that you need a reason :P

1. I’m gonna say this again and again and AGAIN. Jennifer L. Armentrout is one hell of a writer. There’s no secret that she’s my all time favourite author ever (well duh. Have you read my 2012 End of Year Book Survey and noticed how half of the answers were of JLA and Opal? Yep.) and God knows how she does it but every book of hers just keeps on getting better and better. Her awesome, addicting and tight writing is just WOW. If we’re like this with OPAL, we’re all going to be mindblown by the time this series ends.

2. The plot and story was action-packed, fast paced and holy god INTENSE. It was definitely more complex and we're thrown in immediately. And it's not just that, there's a lot of humour and funny moments thrown in there. So everyone's happy. :)

3. The characters are what make this LUX series one of my ultimate top series ever. I was dying to get back into their world and be with them again! I wanted to kiss some of them, hug some, slap some *coughAshcough* but overall, they provided the most entertaining and memorable cast I've ever read about.

4. KATY AND DAEMON. I can never ever ever get tired of reading about them. They’re definitely my favourite YA couple and I could continue reading about them always. Their relationship goes through many stuff, but their love for each other always had me grinning like an idiot J

5. DAEMON. Our favourite alien bad boy is back. And OMG. Isn't he the swooniest? If you didn't think so, after OPAL you most definitely will. We get to see many different sides to Daemon. Even more so than in ONYX. We get to see him vulnerable, protective, jealous (always my fave!), romantic, sweet and everything. He made me swoon 99%, but that doesn't mean he's not jerky or sarcastic anymore, because he still is. God, I want my own Daemon. Too bad my neighbour is 80 years old. Too badddd.

6. I just continue to love Katy more throughout this series. First, she's a book blogger. Then she's dating a hot alien. There's more, but that's all you need to know.

7. Dee! If you’ve read ONYX (well, you have read it, right??), then you must know that Dee won’t be the same ever again. She’s not the same Dee in OBSIDIAN or ONYX, but I appreciate how her character changes and continue to grow throughout this series. I admit, at the start of OPAL, I had very mixed feelings about her, but in the end I adored her again. There was this one scene when she was so kickass and I was like ‘You go, girl!’

8. Dawson! I feel so much for him! He was so sweet and charming and nice before, but obviously after the events that happened, he's not and won't ever be the same. I grew to love him, but not as much as Daemon :)

9. There's a certain character that needs their ass kicked. Preferably by Daemon. That should be enough to make you want to read it. :)

10. There’s a LOT of sexy, steamy scenes. Nuff said.

11. There's a lot of lines that I loved. Here's one of my favourites:

"Maybe because I never wanted Ash, and I wanted you from the first moment I saw you - and before you start, I know I had a bad way of showing it, but you know I wanted you. Only you."

12. And:

"You've got to understand that you are who I want. Not Ash. Not anyone else." Yes. So Ash, get the message, yeah?

13. I stayed up until 2am for this. It got delivered on my Kindle at about 12am and I just HAD to read a few chapters. Then woke up (on a Tuesday) to continue and after school, I practically raced home to finish this until the night. You should know I don’t do that to any other book. SPECIAL.

14. This book made me cry twice. That's good, right?

15. There's a prom scene! And a date scene! And a club scene! *swooon*

16. Umm. Have you seen the cover? His face. His eyes. His hair. His HANDS. Dear god, his hands. (Yeah, I kinda have a thing for hands.)

17. You'll find out if Daemon says the 'I Love You'. Or not.

18. The ending. *CRIES* Dear god, the ending. It’s just…*cries some more* Completely torn me apart. It was tense, heartbreaking and suspenseful. Hell, I didn’t think I was evenbreathing. My head hurts. My heart still hurts after days of finishing it. You guys know I’m not an emotional person, I rarely cry with books, but THIS. I finished OPAL late in the night, and that scene had me bawling and crying into my damn pillows.

19. There’s a cliffhanger at the end of OPAL. But trust me, it’s all worth it. And even though I want to knock down Jennifer’s door and demand her to give me ORIGIN right now, I still loved it. I really couldn’t see the book ending other than what she has given us. J

20. Umm. Let’s see. What else should I say to persuade you to read OPAL? Well, other than the fact that it’s my Top Book of 2012? ;)

AND THAT'S IT. SIGH. I really wanna go talk to someone about this book. Have YOU read it?

This series has consumed me! I've never read so quick, I can't convey how much I've loved what I've read so far, I've been devouring the pages, and because sleep is overrated my time has been better spent reading/inhaling books 1&2 in record speeds!! I never read this quick!!
My ass is numb, I'm hungry, my eyes are tired, my brain is fried, BUT for the life of me I couldn't put this down, god the partner wanted us to go out and I made some excuse!! #DEAD!!

My heart missed beats, my palms got sweaty, my nails are bitten, what an amazing ride this one has been!! This was slow to start but then that burn kicked in and I was loving every second, minture, hours I spent reading this!

Yet again this author has pulled that 5+++++ star rating out of me effortlessly!!

Holy crap I'm so glad I don't have too long to wait until I get to the next book, one arc and then onto the next book!! I have to/need to finish this series..That cliffy was brutal, one I never saw coming!!

And yet again if you've not read this series and like me it's been sitting on your device collecting dust seriously get reading, it's that good!!

I liked this about the same as Onyx. It had more romance, and an even sweeter and more dreamy Daemon, but less action. So it evens out in the end. The only action was the two escape attempts, which dont add up to many pages.

But I really appreciate all the romance, and the focus on Katy and Daemon's bond. The reaffirmation of their relationship. We need that assurance that they can get through what faces them next. I am still a bit worried about their fate, but not sad. All the fuss over the ending had me worried, because I am really sensitive and I didnt want to cry. But I didnt. It ended up not being the kind of cliffhanger that makes me cry. It was a surprise twist, but not especially sad. But it really has me anxious to read Origin.

”And I learned that sometimes when someone says something so devastatingly perfect, there isn’t a need for a response. The words said it all.”

⤷Is been some time since I read the second book and I loved Daemon since the start and I still do, even more now.
He’s even more dreamily than I thought it was possible.
He’s definitely one of my favourite male characters of all time. And I say that without having read the next 2 book, I I have a feeling that when I’m done, I’m going to love him even more (if that’s possible because holy hell he’s FUCKINGTASTIC).
Where can I get one? I need it, immediately!

⤷Kath is an amazing female character, I absolutely admire her strength and I’m sure the next book I will see it even more because damn the cliffhanger was just WTF?NO.

⤷Dee is still mad at Kath for what happened and she did annoy me sometimes, but she did have her moments, such as this: “Dee cocked back a slender arm and slammed her fist right into Blake’s jaw. The impact knocked him back a good three feet.”

⤷Blake, Blake, Blake, DIE, DIE, DIE!

⤷Luc is a very interesting character, and I hope to see and discover more things about him in the following books.

“I trusted him irrevocably”
The romance is, without doubt, my favourite part of this series, and this book just blessed my ship heart so much!
They are so IN LOVE! And I’m so in love with them! ♥︎
And I honestly will sue the entire world if anything happens to them.

And this is me every time I read about some trying to break them apart and I know that I will have this reaction so much in the following books

✦I didn’t expect to love this book as much as I did. This was a great surprise and I had so many feelings reading this. Not all of them good.
✦A lot of things happen in this book. I imagine that this book would be very slow because of the way the previous one end it, but NO.
✦CLIFFHANGER IS A SHIT OF A THING, even more, when the sequel is already out but you don’t have it and don’t know when you will be able to go and buy it. Just great.
✦The plot (for me) only happened at the end of the book. And it is so GOOD AND AWFUL BUT WORTH IT at the same time. I have to know what happens next. And reading the synopsis for the next one, we are getting DAEMON POV and I’m so ready.

I will not lose my mind.
I will not lose my mind.
I will not lose my mind.
I will survive the pain caused by Opal.
I'm strong. I will be stronger.

This will be my mantra until the release of Origin. I will repeat these sentences every day. It's all I can do even if I have a feeling this will not be enough.

In Opal there's all I ever wanted for Daemon and Katy and more. So much more.
I tought I have really known Daemon in Onyx but he is full of surpraises. Prepare yourself for a romantic Daemon. You will fall deeper and deeper in love with him.
And Kat, oh Kat, after the end of Onyx she became a stroger person. In some ways different from the Kat we met in Odsidian and in some way the same as always. She will understand what people can do for the ones they love. She is perfect for Daemon and Daemon is perfect for her.
Reading the book you will be overwhelmed by a flood of emotins. It's the kind of book where you will drop everything you were doing to read it. You will cry tears of joy. You will smile. You will get angry. You will tear your hair. You will think 'this can't be the end. Just can't'.
Why Jenni?

Why are you doing this to your beloved fans? You shattered my heart into tiny pieces.

I think I will never be the same again.

4 EVIL CLIFFHANGER stars!!!

OMG! OMG! OMG! I really THOUGHT I was prepared for this book's cliffhanger ending. I was wrong. I was so, so wrong. I was NOT prepared for this story's ending. Not at all!!! I'm devastated and anxious and want to read Origin right now! Plus, . I should have waited until Opal was released before starting this book. Oh boy, I HATE CLIFFHANGERS! I hate them, I hate them, I hate them!!

I was going to write a review but I think my original comments express my feelings perfectly. I LOVE this series but could kick myself for not listening to all my Goodreads friends who warned me to wait until Origin was released before read this book.

After this ending, I'm in need of a major fluffy, fun, and steamy read. Lol.

DNF a few excruciating hours into the audio.
I want to finish it and find out what happens to all of these characters but the dialogue is AWFUL. And the narrator just makes it a thousand times more awful with her faux sexy-teen girl voice.

description

I read a lot (A LOT!) of trashy romance novels, and I've never run across anything that made me cringe quite the way this one does. It's almost to the point of parody.

description

You might think it can't get worse than the first two books - I certainly did - but then it does. Because the previous books are cheesy but doable if you know what you're getting into. And I enjoyed them for what they were, but this was...no.
Terrible dialogue, terrible-er narration.
Maybe if this were the last book? But it's not.
And as dramatic as this sounds, I simply cannot do this anymore.

Noooooo!!! I hate how the book ended!! WHYYYYYY?????

description

In the beginning , this book was simply awesome ! I was having such a good time with Deamon and his crazy ego !

“A slow, wry smile teased Daemon’s lips. "Simmer down, Kitten, before I have to get you a ball of yarn to play with."

Annoyance flared deep inside me. "Don’t start with me, jerk-face.”

description

Well, the most annoying person in this book was Blake(aka Biff, Bob ,Flake etc) and I really HATE HIM!

After this ending we have to wait until summer for the Origin ???

I swear to God if the release date gets shoved into the new year for this book, I will not be responsible for my actions!!!

Let's just say Hell hath no fury like a woman whose release date gets pushed because of stupid publishing companies.

*********UPDATED REVIEW*********

OK, so anyone who's anyone knows exactly what a die-hard Lux fan I am. So when this released EARLY I was ecstatic.

I’m talking Cloud 397. Rainbows and unicorns, walking on sunshine and moonshine AT THE SAME FREAKING TIME ecstatic.

And so once I got my hands on it of course I stopped everything I was doing and read it. Straight. Until 1 AM.

And I have to say, it didn't quite meet my expectations. Not that it wasn't still great, because it was. It just wasn't, you know, great.

But the real questions is: Was it worth staying up for?

Well, let's recap my thoughts.

First, this is going to sound horrible, but I missed Daemon. The Daemon that made me pissy and uncontrollably swoon-ish at the same time. The Daemon that made me want to rip my tablet in half and then stare in horror at what I'd done. Not because I’d ruined my tablet, but because I didn't know what happened next. The Daemon that made my toes curl, that made me lose all functional thought, that made me want to slam him into a wall and do unspeakable things with. I wanted him, I missed him, I needed him. But I didn't get him. Or at least, not to the degree I wanted to get him.

But all is not lost. The reason I didn't get the Daemon I wanted is simply because he's grown. As a character, over the past 3 books, he's grown and it's changed him. Daemon's a lot more open in Opal. He shows more emotion, actually admits to being jealous and isn't as moody. And it's... weird. He still has those moments that make me want to fan-girl to the nth degree without a care in the world, but they're more spaced out - they're fewer and far between. Instead we get to see the more vulnerable side of Daemon, especially at the end. And yeah, it's kinda sweet. And yeah, he made me gush a bit. But I still miss the bad-ass Daemon. The one who did what he wanted, instead of giving into Katy's demands.

Which brings me to plot. This is where the biggest hit to my rating comes into play. There was either a lot going on, or not enough going on at all. A good 60% of the book was them either waiting or plotting about doing something. Armentrout does attempt to balance it out though, introducing Luc (who honestly scares me in the best way) and Paris (whom I'm kinda in like with) but then also throws in some screwballs and gossip

What made up for most of it? That killer ending. That KILLER-CLIFFHANGING-ENDING. I swear Armentrout wants to me murder someone just to get my hands on the next one.

Other things to note:

Blake. Total arsehole. How didn't they not see that one coming? I really wanted to like him too but it was just way too good to be true. As seen by the KILLER ENDING.

Dee. I love her. She totally let her claws loose in Opal which was fantastic. I was with her the entire time, feeling her pain over losing Adam and her best friend along with her thirst for revenge. When she punches Blake out? I almost kissed my screen. I want to see Dee like this more often. She was probably the most emotionally investing character for me in Opal, from her dark-bitchy side with Ash to her almost forgiveness with Katy.

Katy. Was kinda blah for me in this one. I dunno why, but I just wasn't feeling her as much as I have in the past.

The Dawson-Beth reunion. Kind of bittersweet. I was also kind shocked she recognized him. Looking forward to see what happens here.

THE SCENE. (No need to spell it out for you people, you should know what I mean.) I think it suited Daemon and Katy in regards to time and how the plot panned out. It wasn't scorching or torrid, but for their first time... it worked with the way their characters have grown. I'm not exactly happy with it, but, it worked.

In retrospect, I might fluctuate rating-wise. Depends on my thoughts later. As of now, I still think Opal is the weakest of the series, but still pretty awesome.

But that ending? Holy shit sticks - my expectations for the next one are sky-high. And I think Armentrout might actually meet them, believe it or not, despite my slightly less than stellar opinion of this one.

So in answer to the question: Was it worth staying up for?

HELLS YEAH!

But now I'm left with the proverbial question that currently has no answer:

When is the next one coming out?

3.5 stars Were you expecting something else for this series? If I themed books 1 & 2 like this, I might as well continue the trend. I'll start off in the right order this time with Good Cop.

Good Cop!

1. Daemon. Enough said.

2. Action Sequences. Some of what I'd asked for in the first couple of books was brought to the table with Opal. We're dealing with aliens and the baddies out to get them. As much as I love the sexual tension in these books, if that's all there is, then the entire point of aliens and powers and all of that fun stuff is wasted. I might as well go read another generic-plot contemporary romance instead. Thankfully, the balance was working in this book!

3. There were many great quote-worthy passages. I marked several funny quotes, a few sweet lines, and a couple of downright sexy moments. Unfortunately, this review will be long enough without me adding in my highlights, so I'll be leaving them out this time.

Mini Spoiler - I'd advise clicking on it anyway, otherwise this picture will make no sense.

Note : This is not actually a picture of me.

Bad Cop!

1. I had the same issue with this book that I had with book 2. I'm not sure what's slipped off with the last couple of books, but both of them started out sort of blah. The first several chapters had me thinking that not even Daemon was capable of fixing my ongoing reading slump because the plot needed a serious boost. Even so, everything worked out fine when the story hit a good stride, and all's well that ends well.

2. Katy's still needing hair ties. Hell, I think Daemon and Dawson might need some too. They all seem to have issues with hair falling in the face. It just only appears that Katy's the only one who gets hers tucked back by not only herself, but also by the males in her general vicinity.

3. The YA book reference train continues. This doesn't personalize a book for me; it only dates it.

4. Preach much? The comment on how book piraters suck made me want to look for a soapbox.

But hey, my complaints are becoming smaller and smaller! Other than having a serious reading slump when I picked up Opal which didn't help with my thoughts about the slow start, I had a blast while reading from about 30% on. Overall, the series is coming along quite nicely. It's not my favorite YAPNR (not even going to pretend this is sci-fi, even if we do have aliens running around) series, but it's still one of the few series in the genre that I really do enjoy for the most part. I'll be looking forward to the next in the series because who knows...maybe the bad cop section will end up almost nonexistent with the positive direction we're headed in.

Opal is the third book from the Lux series and by far the most complex in plot and characters.
From all the books from this series, this one was the most intense from my POV. It literally drags you through all the stages of feeling, like anger, grief, surprize, horror, love, sadness and SHOCK. Yap.. a lot to assimilate in just 250 pages.

Katy and Daemon are finally together! Yes, our favorite couple is hot, daring and feels like it can face the world. Of course their happiness will be darkened by problems and enemies that just won't let them be. As I was saying, I think this book is more mature, because it inflicted a more mature feeling to the characters and plot. Now the problems are more complex and you can see in the way things are handled that are heroes are stronger and more capable of doing amazing things.

Let me tell you something about the characters: Katy is not the annoying little brat she was in Onix. I really didn't understand her there and a lot of her mistakes had severe consequences on others fate. Now, after all this events, she is changed and I liked this evolution. After embracing her feelings for Daemon, she fights by his side, wanting to be his equal. All of this, adding to her new and improved skills, make Katy a bad ass heroine and a perfect match for Daemon. He on the other hand, was awesome as ever:) Obviously he changed a lot, because now he was in love with a human and all his believes were shattered, but he kept this protective tendencies, even if Katy is more aaaa.. evolved now. I liked their dynamic, alternating with a lot of hot, funny and serious scenes, and I truly loved them as a couple because despite being different, they clicked so well.

description

Katy will have to work a lot to get her old relationship with Dee back, because she was the most affected by her mistakes and bad moves. I loved to see how much she valued her relationship with Daemon's sister and I know that she learnt a lot from the past events.

As I said, this book is 2.0 in terms of new characters and plot twist. We are introduced with interesting characters that will have a strong contribution to the plot, but we are also rekindled with some very annoying characters. Yes, BLAKE!! With this guy I had a love and hate relationship and even know I don't know in which category to put him, because I am so tired of his mind games and tricks. I want him to be punished, but in a way I understood his motives. I'm kind of complicated right now in explaining myself.

description

So, Opal didn't disappoint. It was so alert and with an amazing dynamic that will certainly leave you breathless by the end of the book. I had 2 OMG moments: a very romantic moment we were all been waiting for like FOREVER and the ending. It blew my mind and thankfully I've read the books in a row, so I didn't have to wait for Origin to be released in 1 year :)

5 stars!

Oh. My. God! Holy! Alien! Babies! Everywhere! There are just no words. I am speechless. I said Obsidian was amazing, I said Onyx was phenomenal... Opal is EPIC! I am seriously at a loss for words... it was THAT good.

Katy and Daemon are finally together... but the world just isn't done with them yet. Reeling from the death of a close friend and the rediscovery of another things are never going to be the same. When danger strikes again Katy and Daemon must team up with a familiar face. But when everyone has something to gain or lose can you trust anyone? Will Katy and Daemon be able to conquer all together or are the destined to be torn apart?

I... just... I literally have no words to describe the incredible epicness of this book. As everyone knows Jennifer L Armentrout is my favourite author of all time. I have read all of her books multiple times and I have to say this is the best one I have ever read in my life. Jennifer's writing style is just amazing. She is the just the most phenomenally talented author I have ever come across and I never get tired of her books. I could easily get rid of all of my books and only keep Jennifer's and just read them over and over again forever and never ever get bored. They are THAT good. So if you haven't read any of Jennifer's books stop reading right now and go and read them... RIGHT NOW! I demand it! You have not lived if you haven't read a JLA books. GO! GO! GO! NOOOOOOOOWWWWWWW!

Katy is so awesome in this book. We get to see Katy being kick-ass with her awesome alien mojo. I loved it and I loved her. I felt like we really saw Katy grow a lot in Opal. She has grown so much already from the beginning of Obsidian to now and I feel like she grows even more in this book. She goes from the Katy trying to sort everything out herself to accepting help from Daemon and growing into a stronger, wiser Katy than any of us could have ever imagined.

Daemon... Oh... My... Daemon. He is just... *melts* In Obsidian we had Jerk Daemon... in Onyx we had cheeky swoon-worthy Daemon... Prepare yourself... for... Romantic Daemon! Oh yes guys I just said that. Daemon goes all romantic and he melted my insides into goo. I just squealed... and swooned... and squealed... and swooned... and *melt*

Opal is without a doubt the best of the series so far... the best Jennifer L Armentrout book of all time... and the best book I have ever read in my entire life. It was just... incredible... amazing... phenomenal... epic... No words I can ever say can actually live up to this book. It just completely blew me away.

Prepare for your insides to turn to goo... to squeal and happy dance and fall head over heels in love with Daemon... you think your in love with him before Opal? Oh you have seen nothing yet... you will love him more than you ever thought possible in Opal. I so need to find me a Daemon. While reading Opal bring tissues because you will cry more than you ever thought was possible. Jennifer definitely knows how to break your heart into a million pieces and then piece it back together just to break it again. But in a good way! Opal is heart-shattering, eye-watering and breathtaking. This is a must-read and one you will read over and over again and never get bored of it. Go read this series NOW! You will not be disappointed and you can thank me later... after the tears have dried and you are once again feeling again.

Wow that was a whole lot of build up for not much to happen. Might have worked better for those reading this series as each book came out, but since I'm binge reading all these books back to back (for the first time) this felt pointless. I finished it yesterday and am already struggling to remember what happened in Opal as opposed to the previous book.

While I am starting to understand Daemon more and am feeling more emotion behind his and Katy's relationship, I'm also getting more annoyed with how angry Daemon always is and how often he beats up Blake. It's a one note song.

Audiobook review: Same narrator as the first 2 books. Aside from pronouncing Daemon's name wrong, she's a good narrator. Would recommend.

tw: One line of strong fat shaming. Violence. Imprisonment. Different characters are grieving the loss of a partner, sibling, or friend.

SPOILER FREE REVIEW
I have never been so excited about any book as I had been about Opal. Since Lux series are my absolutely most favourite YA paranormal series, I just could not wait to read it. And I am glad to say than Jennifer L. Armentrout did not disappoint. Moreover, I finally found my perfect version of Daemon and I need to share it with you:

Opal starts exactly where previous book ended. Luxens are shaken after all that happened and no one is the same as before. Beginning was kind of slow paced but when I was 30% in, story got very exciting and I could not stop reading. Opal contains two main topics, which are developed throughout the whole book. First one is depression after what happened and all dangerous problems that all characters had to face in this book. Second topic is love and relationship between Katy and Daemon which was very realistic and affectionate. It was all perfectly balanced and it only confirmed how excellent writer Jennifer L. Armentrout is.

One of the many things that I like the most about this series is the fact that even though this is YA genre, it all feels very mature because of the topics and problems characters are dealing with and the way they are dealing them with. I always loved dynamics between Katy and Daemon and now, when they added love and sexy times to it, their banter and interactions got even better. They really are one of my TOP favourite fictional couples. Daemon was still infuriating and his ego knows no boundaries and is super-huge, but we finally got to see his sensitive side too. He was just wonderful! If you haven't read Lux series yet, go and read in now!

And the ending!!! OMG, OMG, OMG... I did not know what to do, whether to scream or to cry... All I knew was that my heart was racing like crazy during last couple of pages. This was seriously one of the worst cliffhangers ever written!!!

My favourite quotes:

i need to stop crying at this ending so that i can see this stupid screen properly. think happy thoughts, bryce: sunshine, rainbows, puppies, books- THIS BOOKKKKKKKKK *wails*. that plan didn't work at all. I'm WAILING it's getting all Moaning Myrtle up in here.

my HEART is carved out of my chest flopping on the floor. my life force is dwindling. I've fallen to my knees, gasping, eyes glassing over, holding onto that last bit of air annnnnnd... im dead. then im resurrected only to relive this pain all over again.

this is what rereading is. PAIN. AGONIZING PAIN. ud think it'd get easier but no. still i willingly put myself through this every single time why do i hate myself someone order me a therapist on DoorDash.

Armentrout does not disappoint. Ever. This book had to be my favorite in the series. I'm still reeling from the ending of this book. IT WAS SO GOOD!!!

Deep breaths, deep breaths...Okay I'm almost not better.

The Plot

So, Katy and Daemon have gone through a lot together. Realizing that Daemon and his group of friends are glowworms (their words, not mine), fighting Arums (evil angels), and now the DOD, Daedalus, and other hybrids. Also through in Blake who has returned. No one likes him and Katy hates him. Dee threatens to kill him and would do it but the group needs him. He is the only one who knows where Beth, Dawson's love, is and how to get them in. The group, including Dawson who has come back, are trying hard to figure out the truth of the DOD and the Daedalus program for the sake of everyone they know and who have died. In the meantime, Katy and Daemon's relationship gets even better and you could see that they are falling even more in love. *sigh* it's wonderful. Anyway, everyone works hard and a couple of tries and they all know the risks of trying to find and help other hybrids. Katy knows the risks the most.

What I liked

Everything. No I have to be more specific.

The characters. They were really developed and wonderful. My favorite was Katy and Daemon. I'll start with Katy first. Katy is learning more about her powers and when she has to use them. She goes through some rough and sad times with people dying or being killed. She feels guilty and Daemon talks with her to get her over it. She is very strong and intelligent. This is one of the reasons that I like her so much. She can stand up for herself and fight her own battles, or try hard to.

Daemon is also great.

He is so kind and caring with Katy. He is sensitive with Katy and it is adorable.

He peeked up. “My awesomeness is all about the stealth.”

“Is it?” The temp had dropped and I huddled closer to Daemon and the dying fire, shivering but not anywhere near ready to head back.

“Uh-huh.” He grinned, closing the bowl and placing the rest of the food back in the cooler. Tossing me a soda, he cleaned everything up. We’d moved on past the wine coolers a while ago. “I can’t show all my dynamic sides at once.”

“Of course not. Where’s the mystery in that?”

He picked up a throw blanket. “There is none.” Draping it over my shoulders, he then settled back down next to me.

“Thank you.” I pulled the soft material close. “I think the general public would be shocked to know how deep your sweetness runs.”

Daemon stretched out, resting on his side. “They can never know.”

Grinning, I leaned forward and kissed his lips. “I’ll take the secret to my grave.”

He protects her but still gives her enough room. His ego is still there but it is more joking than it was before. This makes him only cuter. He is very strong and will do anything to keep Katy safe. This is definitely shown at the end of the book.

The action was a definite part of why I loved this book. It seemed to be nonstop and it was wonderful. There are fights, big or small, and they are all as good. The ending was so amazing and I really want to write about it here but I'll hold back. I don't want to spoil it for you.

What I didn't like or could have been better

This is really hard. I'm thinking about this and I can't think of anything.

I'm reading other reviews on how it was cheesy or Katy was dull or always blushing around Daemon. I disagree saying that it wasn't cheesy they just really love each other. Katy did blush but come on. Who doesn't when they love someone? That happens in real life too which is where Armentrout gets it from.

THAT CLIFFHANGER

It almost killed me. As I was getting very close to the end, I was waiting for something to go wrong. The last two books if I remember right had a big cliffhanger so I figured this would too. It totally did and I almost died. I knew that I didn't like that character but that was so bad!

The way Daemon reacted and how Katy dealt with it was so unbelievable. If anyone doubted their love for each other, they should now. Katy is so strong and brave to keep going like that.

Overall

That was an amazing book. It might be my favorite. The ending definitely sealed the deal and I can't wait for the next book where I'll see where this cliffhanger drops down to. The characters were so good and developed. All of them have changed or in the process of. The action and the emotions throughout were unbelievable. Goodness, I sound like a commercial for this book.

So, ya'll should read this!

The third buddy read with the one who loves Boys Before Flowers
We've done it! FINALLY!

Can I just say how close this was to being a DNF. I'm so glad I didn't!

THAT ENDING

Okay so what I liked?
- We finally get to see a better side to Daemon, I'm starting to realise why he is such a loved character, even though he's such a big head.
- The things he does for Katy, I CANNOT COPE!
- The friendships are finally getting back on track!
- Daemons hate for Blake, I mean we're in the same boat here!

What I didn't like?
- You know when something is so drawn out, you get really bored? I had that, I feel like if Fathima was like lets just call it quits I honestly would of, however she kept me going and we finished it!
- The fact it dragged on and on it took me forever to read.
- I still hate Blake.

Will I continue with the series?
HOW CAN I NOT AFTER THAT CLIFFHANGER!

“I love you, Katy. Always have. Always will.”

well, you know, life happens, right?

Again, like in all of those YA books: 15 y/o me would've loved these books, but my almost 23 y/o ass can't handle this or ignore some things that are really problematic, boring and that made me roll my eyes like an idiot.

Y'all know that I can't fucking stand Katy and Daemon: they're just fucking assholes who are annoying as hell and FINALLY are together, but they're annoying₂ and that makes me insane. Really, I was about to puke because their "love" is wonderful, true and now they're a couple. Bruh, this reminded me how much I hated From Blood and Ash because of course you know that they're endgame.

Anyhow, I'm glad that Dee doesn't want to talk with Katy, because actually, she deserves it. What happened to Adam (I guess that was his name, I don't even remember) is COMPLETELY her fault because Katy thought she was invencible and didn't need anybody. Guess what, sis? You're wrong and proves that everyone is in danger because of her.

Blake appeared. Oh, yaaaai, he's the new hero, or it was villain? idk, he's just irrelevant and annoying, liKE EVERYONE IN THIS DAMN BOOK.

This is a little reminder to myself that I won't ready any other of JLA. Hell no. I'll save myself from another cringey moments.

PD in Spanish: la chava en la portada se parece a Teresa, de la telenovela con el mismo nombre, lmao.
