For Aaron, this is a question he has struggled with for years, and one that almost ruined his life.
After two years of non-contact, a letter shows up in the mail inviting Aaron to his ex-wife’s wedding. Nina, the woman who is responsible for all his pain suddenly reappears and once again, he finds himself at her mercy.
In theory, the answer is simple but as both Nina and Aaron struggle with the choices they must make, a stark realization forms.
H. Pearce is a multi-genre author, partner, mother, and student studying mental health and creative writing. Her two areas of study often merge together in her written work, creating heart-wrenching stories that are relatable and raw. She is passionate about bringing attention to matters that are often overlooked in literature, using her areas of study to bridge the gap between what exists and real-life stories people need to read.
I loved this book. So often, when we speak of addiction, the attention is very heavily focused on the addict, and we lose the POV of those around them. This book tells a story of what it’s like to watch the person you love wither away into a version of them you barely recognize anymore, and the ways in which we can cope with that. I think this book does an incredible job of highlighting just how much a battle with drugs takes away from everyone, not just the person primarily involved in the act. It’s an important story, one I’m glad I was able to read. It both humanizes the addict and keeps them accountable, through the lens of a person so deeply invested in their healing that it triggers a healing journey of their own.
Just bravo 👏.
Trigger warning(s): - Drug use/ addiction - Death - Divorce - Abuse
P.S.: This story is told in dual-timeline (past/present) which really helps keep your attention and keep you hooked to the story.
This is the second novella I’ve read by Harry and it always amazes how much she manages to pack into a small book. This is the story of Aaron and Nina and Nina’s issues with drug addiction. A raw, and honest account of what drug addiction can do to a person and its impact on a relationship. Told from Aaron’s point of view, the storyline line moves between the past and present. We get to meet both Nina and Aaron, see Nina meet a friend who introduces her to drugs and her downward spiral. It doesn’t shy away from exploring all aspects of addiction- multiple detoxes, domestic violence, lying, stealing and prostitution.
Aaron was such a well fleshed out and relatable character. You really felt for him as he tried to help Nina and still really loved her despite all she did. My heart broke for him as he sold their home that he and his father worked together to renovate. I was also so glad he had the amazing support of friends and family. It definitely takes you on an emotional ride and I’m glad there was a bit of hope at the end.
MAIN GENRES: Women's Fiction, Literary Fiction TRIGGER WARNINGS: Death, Abuse, and Drugs
What else can I say other than that this was a phenomenal book? The rough thoughts and emotions are clear and very moving. You will get interested in the story after 2-3 chapters and you won't be able to put the book down. I doubt that many people will reach for the book because the cover isn't that interesting but damn - this book deserves more attention.

"...you'll see life always has a way of giving us what we need; it just isn't always when we want it."
Harry has a way of capturing the darkness of reality into her fiction. This Novella, Me + You, deals with contemporary issues. It is a story about drug addiction, love, loss, sex, friendship, and so much more. It is a story about how "... some people search out painful places, believing they can find healing there."
You will go on a journey from past to present, as Aaron navigates the love he has for Nina. His drug addict ex-wife. Aaron must learn to let go so he can truly live again - "But a lifetime love doesn't always mean a lifetime in each other's company."
It is dark and confronting but so real. The power of love is felt throughout. "Love is complex. It has the ability to heal your soul one day and destroy it the next...no two loves are the same."
While so dark, there is also light within this one. I adored the friendship between Aaron and Hazel. "Everyone needs a person in this life...Someone they trust above all else. Someone who lifts them out of the water when every piece of them is drowning inside." But, what happens when the friendship lines blur? "I'd rather you in my life and a friend, a best friend than not at all."
As always it's a privilege to be asked to read one of Harry's books. I love the fact that her stories are real, relatable and quite often make you shed a tear or six.
Me + You is a novella that's told in past and present timelines. It's a story of Mental health, addiction and the effect it can have on relationships
When they were younger Aaron and Nina's relationship was blighted by the friendship Nina forged with Miranda, who introduced her to the seedier side of life...drug addiction. Miranda soon disappears from the scene, leaving Nina and Aaron to try and save their fractured marriage. Nina is still in the throes of her addiction and is unable to accept Aaron's help, their relationship becoming volatile and abusive as Nina turns to prostituting to find her habit.
Realising they're no good together anymore they go their separate ways. Aaron falls in love with Poppy, but holding onto his memories of Nina -- his own addiction -- he can't move on, or can he?
✨You did it Harry! Your first five star review from me! ✨
I finished Me + You with a big smile on my face, there are happy endings, new beginnings and I'll shut up now, you just need to read it!
There is definitely some serious trigger warnings. This book is dark and deep. I felt the author did an amazing job at representing not only what a struggling addict goes through- but their loved ones. I fell in love with Aaron, the MMC. Truly this was brilliant and I can’t wait to read more by this author. I have never had 134 pages effect me this much!
This is the third book of Harry that I've read. As always, Harry is so good at writing relatable and real characters in each of her books. As of this book, it mainly talked about drugs addiction and its effects on one's relationship, to the point it hit me hard because it reminded me of someone that's very dear to me. Kudos to Harry for writing this book. It's not easy to write a book with mental health/disease as its main subject, but she did it wonderfully just like her previous books. I felt so many emotions throughout my reading and satisfied with the ending and the proper closure each character got and deserved. This is the story of how Aaron who cared a lot about Nina, who hooked on drugs, to the point he would do anything to save her even though it costed him his life. The story might have ended but it's the beginning for someone like Aaron.
Big thanks to Harry and Booksirens for the gifted ARC in exchange for a voluntary review.
As usual Harry does it again. She took a very difficult subject matter and just wrote a beautiful story about it. Beware though some tears will be shed to get to the happy ending. This is definitely not for everyone, it is a story about mental health, addiction and the whole of what it causes to the people around them. The grief of losing a person mentally and physicallly due to addiction.
The characters are very relatable. The reactions, the thought process they go through and the outcome is so realistic, that you will feel part or the book. The emotions fly through the pages. I truly felt their pain. The growth that Aaron and Nina make through this book is heartwarming.
I loved that it was told in past and present format, which to me always brings more character depth. Harry's writing is perfection to me, I can't stop reading once she plunges me in her stories. To me the realness, rawness and depth of her books is fantastic. If you love feeling emotions while you read, Harry is perfect for you.
If you're looking for a moving story about addiction, the effects on others and mental health without it being an essay or a jumble of information, this book is perfect for you!
✨️Thank you @harrywritesbooks @harrywritesfiction for my free finished copy in exchange for an honest review.
This book just goes to show that you don’t need 300+ pages to be a beautiful piece of writing! Just shy of 150 pages this beauty of a novella really packs a punch!
It follows Aaron and Nina, alternating between the past and present. Me & You takes the reader through their tumultuous relationship, their battles with addiction and domestic violence. I’d say due to the topics covered it could be a tough read for some.
It certainly wasn’t a happy read, and I found myself in tears multiple times but it was SO beautifully written and really highlights not only the effect addiction has on the addict, but how it impacts the lives of those who love them. It tells a hard hitting story about love and loyalty and left me questioning how far I would go, and what I would endure to save someone I love if they were battling addiction. For such a short book to have this much of an impact is just a testament to the talent of the author!
This was one of my favourites from H. Pearce so far. She has this amazing talent where she is able to portray life-altering, harrowing problems people face in an enlightening way, while making you cry, of course. Me + You nailed this again, looking at the effect addiction has on the partner too, as well as the addict.
The story progressed fluidly and her MC and side character's relationship was my favourite dynamic to read in a wee while.
Keep making me cry and laugh at the same time, please, Harry! Can't wait for the next one.
What can I say... This author includes topics in her books that most of us are too anxious to even think about. She shines a light on the darkest shadows of our civilization and exposes them, and she does so in a digestible way, with an easy-to-read writing style. This book was no different. Sad and eerie, but so beautiful, and I swear you won't regret reading it.
Wow … What a powerful story … Breathtaking and impossible to put down … Read in one sitting. Infatuating love, drugs, abuse, friendships and support combine in this standout novel that gives an insight into the different struggles in life. This absolute cracker is highly recommended and worthy of five stars.
I loved this book and I love Harry’s writing!! She seriously writes the most powerful stories in such a short span of bookage! She hits me in my feels every time and writes about such deep topics in the most beautiful way. I absolutely loved this story and it took a turn I wasn’t expecting but absolutely loved!!
His story really hit me hard. This could almost be a nonfiction because every bit of this could truly happen. It is difficult to make me cry but this book had me in tears! I can't wait to read more from this author.
I literally wanted to DNF. I understand loving someone with an addiction but I dont understand someone making idiotic decisions and most of these characters made idiotic decisions over and over and over. No more!!!
The narration flashes between the past and present and at times its difficult to keep track of the timeline. I enjoyed the concept, but the ending felt a bit flat.
This novella deals with some heavy topics. Mental health and drug addiction are at the forefront but don't let that scare you away because its written so well shedding light on how relationships are impacted as well as the struggles a drug addict faces every second of the day.
Aaron and Nina have the perfect marriage. in love and on top of the world until Nina gets pulled into the dark world of drugs. As Aaron tries to save her, he is living his own worst nightmare, unable to get through to her.
The writing is real and raw. The characters are relatable. So much so that you feel like you're living the life with them. Harry doesn't shy away from describing the impact drugs have on a relationship and the toll it takes on life.
You hurt, when Aaron hurts. You scream at Nina to put the needle down. You cry when you see their love crumble unable to overpower how strong addiction can be.
You will walk away with knowledge about mental health and addiction you didn't already have. I love it when not only can I throughly enjoy a book for its tremendous writing but learn something in the process.
Kudos to Harry for tackling subjects that aren't often talked about and doing so with understanding, grace and relatability.
I highly recommend this book for anyone who who loves to be swept away in a writing style that has humor, love, realism and truth.
