Half-dwarven craftswoman, enchanter, and badass hammer-wielder Matti Puletasi has achieved most of her goals and even found the love of the handsome elf assassin Sarrlevi.
Unfortunately, there’s still a bounty on her head. That makes it hard to return to a normal life, start a family, or even visit the Coffee Dragon without being shot at.
Worse, one of Sarrlevi’s old elven lovers shows up, hinting of changes back home that mean his exile could be lifted and his nobility returned—if only he’ll dance to her tune.
Matti knows Sarrlevi loves her but worries he’ll be tempted. A chance to return home and be a hero instead of an outcast. Who wouldn’t long for that?
Another great book in the series. I was a little worried shout about reading this book as I did think the book six was a great stopping point. I should have had more faith and am really glad I read this book.
Now that Mattie had freed her parents, got the partner of her dreams, and got her business on track, life must be pretty good and boring, right? Wrong!! There is still a price on her head, new gangsters and cosmos shaking events that she can't help but be involved in.
An excellent continuation of the series as more things get wrapped up. I just know these guts will keep each other's lives interesting, no matter how much they claim the want boring. I really like how far Sarrlevi is willing to go to keep Mattie "safe" legal or otherwise. I am almost sad that there is only one more book in the series.
I LOVED this new book, WANTED! I especially enjoyed the character development and Matti & Sarrlevi’s growing relationship. Matti’s mom is a hoot and so are the goblins! Of course, Buroker’s plotting is always absolutely perfect. I’m having trouble thinking up enough superlatives!🤔
Disclosure: I reviewed a free Advance Reader copy of this book With no strings attached.
I love these characters — Matti and Sarleevi, Val and Zav, Willard, Tinja — and the action. And the magic, especially Matti's growing powers. And the dwarves, elves, goblins, dragons. And the lusty romance. And the large quantities of meat.😊
While I enjoyed the previous series with Val and Zav this series is being moved to a select few favorites of mine. It will definitely be re-read with close to the same frequency as all of the Ilona Andrews' series, Anne Bishop's The Others series and Patricia Briggs' Alpha and Omega series. I'm team Mataallii and Sarlevvi all the way. Can't wait for the 8th and sadly final installment in this delightful series. Not since Annette Marie's Guild Codex:Demonized series have I loved a spin off more than the main series. (If you haven't read about Robin and her demon you're missing out 😉.)
They are at it again. Matti and Sarrlevi have pulled the assassins off their trail.
Matti is thrilled the assassins are off their backs. Her Dad is cleared to visit earth. Now the dragons accept them as neighbors. The goblins are joining the neighborhood. The story is in how it all happens. And as usual it is a fascinating tale that has so so many things happing that you can’t help but read every sentence so you don’t miss anything. The humor is there. The gore is there. The sex is there. Nothing is missing. But more for next time.
This is another rollicking tale that takes readers around the Cosmic Realms. This time, it’s Saarlevi’s reputation being compromised.
As always, plenty of chuckles reading conversations between Matti and her friends and the tense excitement of fight scenes that keep the pulse racing.
With nearly everything neatly tied up, I’m wondering what we can expect for this crew in the final book of the series, and I’ll find out on release day.
A slide back in quality, sadly. Anything with Slehvyra is overdone and frankly insufferable. I'm not sure how to put it into words, but the way sex is handled in this series is bizarre. It almost feels like Buroker overshot sex positive to such an extent that she fell right back around into sex shaming.
As for the plot to prevent Eireth's assassination, it was unspectacular. Mikki the Wrench was entertaining, though.
Another fun escape in a series that is made for just that. This installment seemed a bit light on any real meat (in the storyline, not the actual meat… ;). But even the kinda silly decisions and twists are fun to read when one needs a break from the world.
This is book 7 in the Legacy of Magic series and while book 6 wrapped up the big overarching plot line, book 7 wrapped up those few side plot lines that remained. I enjoyed this book and seeing how it all got wrapped up, although it definitely felt on the lighter side and less urgent than some of the previous books. It wasn't as engaging as some of the previous books, but I still enjoyed listening to this one.
It was fun to spend more time reading about Matti and Varlesh as well as the big group of side characters. I like seeing how Matti has changed and discovered her enchanting powers during the series and how much she can do with her powers now. It's also nice to see some scenes with her parents now. And I like seeing how Matti and Varlesh are doing together and planning their future. I like reading about these characters and I was excited to see Tinga's plans for an urban goblin sanctuary progress. Like the rest of the series there's plenty of action, banter and fun scenes. I liked the addition of The Wrench in this book, he sure was an interesting character.
This book deals with Matti still being on the assassin's guild radar and trying to get the bounty removed, clearing her father's name and then there is an elven political plot she and Varlesh get involved in. I wasn't a fan of the elven ex princess making another appearance and how some of those scenes went, but the wrap up and how the eleven plot line got resolved was satisfying.
To summarize: While book 6 wrapped up the main plot line, this one does a good job of wrapping up the few side plot lines that remained open. I liked seeing how these got resolved as well as a new plot line involving the elven ex princess pops up, I wasn't a fan of those scenes, but I liked seeing how Matti and Varlesh dealt with the situation. I liked reading more about the characters and the addition of a new character The Wrench was interesting. I like seeing how Matti has changed and learned more about her enchanting powers throughout the series and how she is now building a future with Varlesh.
This kindle e-book novel is from my Kindle Unlimited account book 7 of 8
Lindsay Buroker is one of my favorite authors.
An interesting urban fantasy world of all kinds of family and friends relationships plus lots of action, misdirection, and violence with magic and strange events.
I would recommend this series and author to readers of fantasy world 🌎 adventure mystery novels. 2024
I thought I had finished this series but I had two more books to go.
To many authors, series, and free books. Happy reading and have fun.
This is an okay book. It has the usual banter between the various main characters including Matti’s hammer. Some magical ass-kicking, conspiracies to be unraveled, tasks to be performed and so on and so forth.
There are indeed a fair bit of action in the book but there are also a fair bit of skulking around in the shadows thanks to a lot of people still holding stupid grudges, banning people or wanting to imprison them for no real good reason.
I am honestly getting a bit fed up with this political bullshit and it feels a bit too much deja vu for me to be honest. The blurb for the next book, Cursed, claims it is the conclusion of the series and I think it is about time. At least unless the author decides to finally get rid of this rubbish and let Matti and Sarrlevi take on something new.
Also, this author sometimes let’s too much appeasement of the woke mob seep into her stories. I really do not need phrases like “capitalist pigs” and such like communist nonsense in my books.
This was so much fun to read, and I'm grateful that the hard-working author has another book in the works! Some of the story lines are wrapped up, while new characters and intriguing developments leave the reader anticipating more. Assassins, viral videos, traps, horrible desserts, excellent cheeses, sorcery, dragon duels, construction work, and so much more make this a thoroughly entertaining read!
I’ve very much enjoyed this series. The different species meeting and making lives together. The different worlds coming together. It’s like culture shock. This is a story of a melding of different worlds, and how people change one another after meeting. I have enjoyed Matti and her group. E Rey person made significant changes in their lives from the beginning of this series. Read from the beginning to end.
This whole universe built in the Seattle area is absolutely incredible! I have followed all these unique characters from the beginning. A world full of imagination, mystery and magic is on every page. I especially like the additional whimsy and laughter. Where else could we find Half dwarfs that love cheese, Dragons that wear a crocs Or alchemist vampires?
I understand the author wanted to give us closure on a few loose plot threads after the epic events in the previous book. But really and truly, what exactly did this book accomplish other than to give Varlash a bonafide reason to go into retirement? Not much is the appropriate answer. Everything supplied here was just weird events to drive the plot along and to make us readers feel like this could be plausible.
Our fearless heroes (heroines and heroes alike) are very entertain and admirable in the latest book of the series! Lindsay has outdone herself in the activities and adventures as well as descriptions of new locations in book seven! I hope everyone reads all of the books in this series so as not to miss out such entertaining characters, locations and adventures! Thanks, Lindsay, for your hard work and creativity!!
As always a compelling read with great plot, characters and a lot of laughs along the way. One problem is that if you are having trouble sleeping you absolute should not read this book to go to sleep ! You will be up for hours reading one more page one more chapter just to see how things turn out!
Brilliant weaving of multiple storylines into a whole
Legacy of Magic is such a great series and I’m so glad there will be a book 8. Wanted, book 7, brilliantly brought challenging issues and relationships to a point of happy resolution. I’m looking forward to find out what is happening next in Matti, Varlesh, Val, and Zavrid’d world.
This was a slog to get through. The author really loves rubbing Sarrlevi’s past sexual exploits in Matti’s face. The way sex is handled in this book (and the entire series) is weird. We get it: this supernaturally hot man, whose had scores of supernaturally gorgeous lovers and frequently engaged in transactional sex, has chosen not-supernaturally-attractive Matti. WE GET IT.
The extended seduction scene between Sarrlevi and Slehvyra was unnecessary and felt pointless—this is the best the author could come up with? Slehvyra’s presence is always overdone and makes the story drag. She’s not interesting, charismatic or clever; she’s just an intolerable screeching sex-obsessed harridan who adds nothing to the story. That her transparent schemes get as far as they do speaks less to her cunning and more to the stupidity of everyone else. At this point I almost wish someone would succeed in a coup because all the other-realm leaders are dummies.
The assassination plot was boring. Clumsy plotting, with more of Zav and Val (in)conveniently entering and exiting scenes as necessary. The bounty on Matti, supposedly a sword of Damocles hanging over her head, is all-too-conveniently resolved off-page. Matti’s hand-wringing over Sarrlevi’s occupation is ridiculous at this point — this man literally wants to bring you the heads of your enemies! I think her true motive is that she just wants Sarrlevi to be with her every minute of every day.
I'm really hooked on this series, and although I felt like the series had, had a purdy good wrap up in the last book... it seems Lindsay Buroker had better ideas, because there were still plenty of story threads that needed to be tied up. Matti still had assassins on her butt. And the woman that brokered deals by blackmail, and usually involved sex. Had implied that the Elven King might be replaced. And then there was Mikki the Wrench the goblin mob boss started scheming with both Sarrlevi’s and Matti. Giving them all plenty to do. And Matti still has a house warming party to throw! Ohhhh and did I mention Halloween was just around the corner?!?
I enjoy posting quotes at the end of my reviews:
"Though I hadn’t seen the desecration, I’d had no trouble imagining neighborhood teenagers chucking rolls of TP at the shrubs from a distance."
“I have a butcher that hooks me up.” “With what? Rhinoceros? Woolly mammoth?” “Ha ha. Cows are big, you know.”
“I’ve got my smoker going too with as many ribs as I could rub down and shove in. Zav was salivating like Niagara Falls this morning.” “Ew,” Dimitri said. “I caught you drooling too,” Val pointed out. “Not like Niagara Falls.” “Like Snoqualmie Falls?” “Maybe.”
Matti’s parents have been rescued and life should be returning to something more normal, but there’s still a price on her head and that needs to be resolved before she can think of settling down with her love, Varlesh. Varlesh is still an assassin, and Matti hopes that she can convince him to do something else with his life, but he’s determined to protect her in whatever way he can, and that might mean accepting an assignment to take out a threat. Add in a plot to kill the elvish king, who is Val’s father, and Matti and friends will need to uncover the perpetrators and stop them, which will also help prove Varlesh has changed, so that he can visit his mother on the elven home world. And then there’s the barbecue Matti is throwing, and the guest list just keeps growing. I’ve really enjoyed this series and I’m glad things have gotten much better for everyone. The next book will wrap up the series, and I expect it to be just as much fun as all the others.
I really can't handle Matti Puletasi anymore. As another reviewer said, she just comes across as pathetic in her relationship with Sarrlevi, a dynamic that unfortunately takes over too much of the story. We constantly have to hear her high-schoolish sounding inner dialogue about her relationship, and I've rarely been this frustrated with a character that had the makings of a strong woman but came across as a hot mess obsessed with a man. I'm giving up on this branch of the series and have started reading 'Legacy of Magic' but can already tell that we are landing on a similar formula. PLEASE DO BETTER!
Matii has finally gotten her father cleared of Earth charges, Sarlevi reunited with his eleven world, helped to save a king, conquered some enemies, gotten her father and older sister reunited, and a couple of other things settled. Sounds like a lot, doesn't it. But it is here in her next to last Lagacy of Magic work by Lindsay Buroker. She is not finished yet, but then Val and friends weren't either when he series ended.
Love this series a!nd all the characters so much action for a short book I hope there will be many more books please write faster so those of us who read none stop .so far all the books I've read by Lindsay Buroker are fantastic on to the next hope you enjoy as much as I did fantastic.😍😍😍😍😍😍
This series is an absolute blast to read, super enjoyable!!!!
Congratulations to Lindsey Buroker for this amazing series. It’s extremely hard to find such an interesting and exciting author who not only writes intelligently but also provides top rated plots, characters and excitement in the stories.
A lot of meat to prepare!!! I loved this book and the new character introduction (Mimi), I am curious about the half elf half dragon maybe he’ll be brought up more in the next book or he might have his own? But it was nice seeing the whole family together at the end.
I am off two minds here - still in situation of the series, but also very distressed because the next installment is the last (afaik) and I do not want it to end.
Off to blast through the ending… and praying to an entity or god/goddess who deigns to listen… either produce more storylines far, or give me a house next to Val and Zav.
This was another great addition to the Legacy of Magic series. I love the characters that Lindsay has written in this world. I love it when Val, Zav, Gondo and Willard and all of the other characters are part of Matti and Varlesh’s story. Always a fun and action packed romp with this crew.
Basic Plot: Matti and Sarrlevi seek to finally resolve the bounty on Matti's head, as well as save the elven king from a different assassin.
So many assassinations. These books make it seem like they are commonplace. Heck, for all I know they are. A fun book that resolves some plots from.the previous nooks.
