Deke Jamison has been waiting for his hot neighbor to fall madly in love with him for years. The day Marshall moved in next door, Deke instantly knew for sure that it was love at first sight. Well, okay… maybe just lust. But since Marshall turned out to be not just be hot, but also super kind and fifty shades of wonderful, the falling-in-love part happened pretty quickly, too. Marshall is everything Deke could ever want in a man, and they’re clearly meant to be together forever. So why is it taking Marshall so dang long to realize how perfect they are for each other? Marshall Palmer has been trying to resist the enthusiastic boy next door for years. But Deke doesn’t make it easy. He may be too young and he’s definitely too vanilla, but he also shares every single one of Marshall’s values and is utterly adorable on top of it. All Deke wants out of life—besides Marshall, which he’s made more than clear because subtle, Deke is not—is to make the world a better place. Between Deke’s endless volunteer work and the energetic determination he brings to helping others, Marshall has no doubt that Deke will manage to do it, too. After all, he’s already made Marshall’s world a better place. But there’s no way Marshall can ever let their friendship become anything more, not after the way Marshall failed the last boy who claimed to love him. (LOL, isn’t it cute that Marshall thinks it’s up to him to decide?) When Deke discovers that the pets up for adoption in the fundraiser Marshall is helping to organize—the one he most decidedly does not want Deke’s help with—aren’t exactly the fluffy cats and dogs Deke expected, he falls down a kinky little rabbit hole and ends up with ears and a tail of his own. And no one can resist an adorable little kitten, right? Besides, everyone knows that cats pick their owners, not the other way around. And if those owners prefer to be called “Daddy,” Deke has no problem with that. No problem at all. Daddy’s New Kitten is a gay romance as utterly adorable as Deke is, featuring an age gap, a soon-to-be-ex-virgin who looks amazing with a tail, and a Daddy who’s going to be adopted by his eager new kitten whether he wants it or not. ( he wants it.) Deke and Marshall’s story is part of the Daddies for Dollars multi-author series, where every book features a swoon-worthy Daddy, a boy he adores, and a happily ever after helped along by a fundraiser event. Each book stands alone, but with six delicious Daddy pairings to choose from, why not read them all?
It’s not the book it’s me. I thought I’d try a pet play and get out of my comfort zone a bit and since dogs are the popular pet play around here I chose a kitten instead thinking it would be quirkier. Well I didn’t enjoy it, because one, it confirmed that pet play kink is not my jam and second, because that kitten guy read like an 8 years old kid and it was creepy. Also his mom was 🙄 (OTT unrealistic and a bit ew ) . I probably would have enjoyed it a bit if that kid wasn’t so …extra, so OTT, so childish. Seriously, it made me cringe. I won’t rate it because I left it at 70% and because as I said it probably isn’t the book’s fault.

This book was truly just a whole bunch of fun. I can't remember the last time I smiled quite as much while reading. I'm certain I looked like an absolute dork the whole way through, and I loved it.
‘Young man volunteers for a kinky pet adoption charity event in order to win over his chosen soulmate after finding out he's kinky, but accidentally chooses the wrong kink’ is definitely the recipe for so, so many good things. The steam was amazing. Deke is a virgin who's saved himself for Marshall for over 3 years. You better believe it was explosive when he finally got what he wanted.
Deke was just.. a lot, but in all the best ways. He saw Marshall, and because he just knew they were soulmates, destined to be, endgame, written in the stars, etc., of course he was relentless in his pursuit. Deke's character definitely straddles the line sometimes, but because he's a good person, and has the purest heart, you just can't get annoyed with him. He was also absolutely hilarious and said the most unintentionally unhinged things. "Do I look fuckable enough in this?” I asked, wondering if I should pull out the kitchen shears and make the shirt into a crop top before popping over to Marshall's to check on the status of the future father of the babies I didn't plan on having. Wait, non-father? Co... unparent?
Marshall was the perfect counterbalance for Deke's unhinged-ness. He had some hang-ups from a previous relationship that made him feel not good enough for a relationship, but when he finally gave in to Deke (come on, it was inevitable), he provided the calm his kitten needed to let go of his stress. I swallowed hard, a lump in my throat. My boy was all in, and always had been. If I ever let him down, it would be a thousand times worse than the way I'd disappointed Ryan. Hurting Deke would be unbearable.

"Oh, and number four, you know I'm in love with you.” Daddy spewed out the sip of water he'd just taken. I handed him a napkin. “That wasn't actually the question. You have to know. Puh, this book was waaaaay too long. Even as the book is already less than 300 pages it could’ve been wrapped up in far less. There was too much inner monologue and wondering about stuff that kept the whole story from progressing. It was honestly frustrating as hell and I was skimming a lot, bored af.
Other than that the story was… cute. Even though Deke got on my last nerve at the beginning. He felt super young and immature with his Marshal is my happy ending and we’re meant to be together over a much older man he’s been pining over for the last three years. Okay, he’s only 21 too.
But at least when Deke discovers his kinky side and got into pet-play, the book finally started to get interesting. His journey with his first experiences with the cat he is were pretty cute and very exciting for him. And when Marshal and Deke finally start playing together it is truly hot.
So all in all I wouldn’t recommend this book. The storytelling was really slow and boring overall.
BUT the dynamic between the mcs confirmed that I think I found my fave kink to read about. Cats are a lot of fun and they require one hell of a Daddy to put up with them, with them being defiant and feisty a lot.*lol
Hot and hillarious read. Really liked the couple and the side characters. Wasn't in a mood for angst and it turned out this book was exactly what I needed.
It’s not a surprise that I’m a cat person. But this book was a had a bit too much kitten attitude for me 😕
No idea why it didn’t work as well for me as I’d hoped. There aren’t many kitten play books out there, and I’ve really been looking forward to reading it. Who knows, maybe my expectations were too high?
In any case, while I loved Marshall (the 19 years older neighbour/daddy), Deke was a bit… much. And he continued being a bit much for way too long - maybe the book would have worked better as a novella?
Deke is living next to Marshall, and he decided years ago that Marshall is “the one”. And for all this time, he’s been trying to convince Marshall that he’s “it” for him, too.
There are a few things that annoyed me. I’ll deduct one star alone for the dratted “handing over my v-card/popping my cherry” talk. Seriously, there needs to be a TW for that. I can’t stand it 🤣
Then there’s Deke’s total naïveté when it comes to sex/kink. And his inability to google it 🙄 seriously? How old is he, 12? He’s a college student ffs.
And how he kept pushing himself on Marshall, not backing down for 3 !!! years. I know it’s supposed to be a cat trait, but seriously. Uh. No.
And the fact that he talks about everything sex related with his mum.
In. Detail.
Imagining my son doing the same makes me want to hide in the bathroom, stick my fingers in my ears and chant lalalala 🤣
Why did I continue, you ask? I actually loved how the “kitten headspace” was described. And as mentioned, I loved Marshall. Still, I can’t give it more than 2.5 stars, and after my rant, I can’t in good conscience round it up. A shame, I really wanted to love it.
as you guys may or may not know, around a year ago, i stumbled upon a kitten play book that was, for a lack of a less brutal word, unreadable. from that moment, for an unknown reason, i’ve read every kitten play book i found (they aren’t a lot tbh) and they were all more or less terrible. but i didn’t give up, i knew that one day i will find an acceptable one. i’ve found it!!!! this is even good! it’s super funny and sweet and i want to thank chara croft for her service. will i keep reading kitten play books? well, statistically, i won’t like them, so i’d go with no. but you never know.
I couldn't fit together Deke's ditziness and his social conscience, but to the extent I believed in him he annoyed the bejesus out of me and I could not imagine why a grown man would want anything to do with him.
Chara Croft's actual prose was better than good enough to leave me willing to find out whether a different book of hers would suit me better, but I still can't manage more than two stars here.
Oh my heart, what a gorgeous and delightful story. Sweet Deke is in love with his neighbor for over three years and wants to marry him, there will never be anyone else for him. He knows for sure and has to convince Marshall they are meant. Only, Marshall tries everything to keep him at arm's length. Deke is hurt, he can’t believe Marshall doesn’t want him. Marshall has once a boy and he wasn’t the right daddy for him. He can’t be a daddy again.
Well, you never met Deke, did you? Because when he got something in his head he’ll get what he wants.
When Deke understands Marshall is part of the BDSM community, he dives into that world to get to know everything about it.
Marshall can’t believe his eyes, Deke is the most beautiful kitty, and that kitty he wants him, only him. Deke was such a natural kitty, in no time he was in the headspace, and he didn’t even know it.
Watch Marshall melt, he didn’t have a chance to resist Deke’s vibrant personality. An amazingly written story, I love this author’s work so much. The most delicious smut with so many positive vibes. It’s sexy, delightful and so much fun. I couldn’t get enough of it!
that book was a solid read it was hot, steamy and hilarious but honestly it was a way too long. And sometimes Dekes attitude was a bit too much for me but nevertheless it was an okay read but nothing I would pick up again.
Most know Chara for writing things that are more on the naughty side, like the really naughty, naughty side. This one was nothing like those stories, so for those who dont enjoy those type of books, this one's for you. The kink was not overwhelming.
So in here we have Deke, a very young fella who really wanted Marshall, his next door older neighbor. Deke did everything to get Marshall, but due to the fact that Marshall was a Daddy and Deke was not a boy, he was not going to get involved with him.
Once Deke found out that he really liked kitty play, he decided that it was close enough to a boy and Marshall eventually agreed.
They finally get together and it was so sweet.
My only knock on this was the whole horrible boy that Marshall would not stop thinking about. I get it, having a relationship like that makes one wary, but it seemed non stop ruminating about him was going on.
Daddy kink and pet play are two kinks that I’m not really interested in, but in spite of that, I did like two Daddy kink books I’ve previously read form Chara Croft. Unfortunately, I think just the combo of the two is just too much that I don’t care for in one book. Lots of “Daddy” and “boy” and kitten play and spanking bad boy/kitten. And while I think Daddy kink is sometimes enjoy in books, I think with this I can scratch pet play off that list… I’ll stick with tentacles 🐙.
I do really like Deke as a character. I was excited to see that a couple side characters I found interesting were not MCs in the other Daddies for Dollars books, so maybe they will pop up in another Chara book in the future.
Did I just read a slow burn by Chara Croft? 🙀 The wait was well worth it! Deke has been waiting years for Marshall to realize they are perfect for eachother and he's been about as subtle as a wrecking ball. I loved Deke with his love for cleaning up the environment and ALL the sass. Being a kitty fits him so perfectly 🥰
I feel like I’m still chasing the beauty that was Dear Daddy, Please Spank Me. I love that book, but what I’ve read from this author since then has not hit the same. Okay, the kink elements have hit the same, the problem lies in the pages upon pages of unnecessary ridiculousness. There was just too much time focused on Deke and his bestie or the inner dialogues. I wanted more of Deke and Marshall together—the moments we got were perfect. So all the stars go to the moments (especially the kinky ones) that we get between Marshall and Deke. Everything else was just noise.
A dynamic and fun read, full of sparkling characters and a kind of slow burn anticipation. A virgin MC who discovers a new kink and a Daddy who has to overcome doubts. Brilliantly written and so absorbing.
Deke was really funny, and I laughed a lot. Figured I'd give it a try since a friend recced it but pet play just isn't my thing and I got a little bored trying to finish this so I just ended up, well, not doing that.
This was just the sweetest. Deke is an adorable and fiesty kitten, and the joy he and Marshall give each other is contagious. There was so much humor and warmth in this, a wonderful feel-good read.
Daddy's New Kitten by Chara Croft is part of the Daddies for Dollars series by multiple authors. This book is about Deke and Marshall. Since the moment Marshall moved in the house next to Deke, Deke has been in love...... well lust first but love really soon after... with Marshall. Marshall hasn’t admitted that they belong together forever so Deke has to help him see it.
I loved their story. It was sweet, sexy, full of feels and very well written. They were so perfect together.
This book was absolutely adorable! I loved seeing Deke in his kitten gear and how he slipped right in to his kitten headspace! It was sooooo cute! Daddy Marshall never even had a chance to fight it. Deke knew what was best all along. I had an absolute blast reading about Deke and his Daddy and completely devoured it in 1 night! Run to Amazon and pick this book up! You won’t regret it ❤️
I received a copy of this book from the author and this is my honest review.
POV: 1st Person Dual POV
Standalone or series: Part of the multi author Daddies for Dollars series
Would I recommend it: 5 stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ highly recommend!! 🤩
All the stars for Deke and Marshall!!! I think Deke is my new favorite character from Mama Chara. Just the right amount of sass, sweet, and sexy all packed into a pair of impatient pants (the ones that show off his perfect little ass)! Deke's innocence while blatantly begging for attention was absolutely delightful. He's honestly possibly the most kittenish person I've ever read. I'll be reading this one multiple times...just like every book by this author.
Easily excitable, environmentalist brat meets quiet neighbor Daddy and instantly falls in love. All it takes is three years, a “pet” adoption, and perseverance to make that Daddy his, forever.
A low angst, fun foray into pet play, D/s, overly dramatic brats who enjoy a spanking and a Daddy with a heart of gold.
Deke was so fun and I loved his spirit and dedication to getting what he wanted, even convincing Marshall to give another relationship a try after being let down years before. Deke found his PURR-fect way to calm his jitters, making this such a cute kitten play love story. I always love Chara’s sweet marshmallowy stories and recommend every time. *** ARC review ***
As always, Chara Croft's latest romance was an absolute delight. Deke was one enthusiastic, determined boy, and his pursuit of Marshall was just as adorable as it was persistent. I found myself laughing out loud dozens of times at Deke's rambly monologues, sunshine happiness, and hilarious no-filter personality, and he brought so much energy to this story. Marshall didn't stand a chance at resisting him, and getting to know his soft, caring heart only made me believe even more firmly that he was Deke's perfect Daddy. I'm very convinced that Marshall would have found reason after reason to deny his attraction to Deke had Deke not taken the leap of faith and put himself on display at a kinky fundraiser, but thankfully he wasn't the kind of boy to wait around for Daddy. No, Deke ran headfirst into pet play and discovered that being a sassy little kitten was exactly what he hadn't realized he'd needed the whole time. God was that first night of play hot, and after Marshall let go of the voices in his head telling him he couldn't be a good Daddy, their connection was off the charts. From sexy explorations to kitten playtime and sweet date nights, Marshall and Deke settled right into a forever relationship without looking back. Theirs is the kind of romance I've always pictured as my ideal--full of playfulness and passion and so much deep, lasting love. I will never get enough of the way Chara can draw out foreplay into a delicious tease and then set me on fire with the passionate outcome, but I also loved Marshall and Deke's partnership outside the bedroom. These two were a perfect match in so many ways, and the way they supported each other unquestioningly was incredible. I'm over the moon by how their story ended, and knowing that a year later their relationship still has the same delightful passion it had at the start was exactly what I needed to let these two ride off into the sunset together.
**I voluntarily read an ARC of this book. This review expresses my honest thoughts and opinions.
This was such a fun read! I absolutely devoured it. Could Deke be any more adorable or endearing? (That'd be a big ol' heck no.) The new kitten had me snort-laughing my way through most of this book, what a delightful character. (Massive kudos to the author for giving him such a distinct and authentic "voice"...his internal dialogue was THE BEST.)
Admittedly, I was a bit wary of how things would go the first couple of chapters, seeing how utterly devoted and - obsessively? - in love Deke (21) is with his clueless soulmate neighbor Mashall (40). But then again, is Daddy Marshall really that unsuspecting? (That's another big heck no!)
Deke is just so irrepressible, enthusiastic, open, refreshingly honest, and charming in his own way, it's easy to see why Marshall couldn't deny his own feelings for the younger man any longer. I fell in love with him a bit too, it's impossible not to. If I had to choose a favorite quote (Deke thinking about Marshall's allergies): "Another reason I was the best kind of kitten for him. No dander!" (*snort-laugh*)
Deke and Marshall's relationship is a uniquely meshed spin on kitten pet play and Daddy/boy dynamics, and that's kind of the point. They're both exploring what they both want and what works for them as a couple. And did I mention it's all hot as Hades? Whew, the anticipation build-up is something...
I'm crossing my fingers this book spins off into more featuring the terrific secondary characters. Marshall's Daddy friend Aaron and Deke's pup friend Lewis need an HEA story too (together!), as does Deke's bestie Zach. And so does Zeke's hilarious badass mother! I simply adored her. I received an advance reading e-copy of this book and have left this honest review voluntarily.
This author has been really hit or miss for me and I have always steered clear of pet play so I really just expected to try this but ditch it within a chapter or two. It seemed to be just what I was in the mood for, but I am often disappointed in "daddy" books so my expectations were low. But I actually really enjoyed this one!
It was all Deke. He was HILARIOUS. One reviewer said he was way too childlike for her taste, but in this category, that's pretty standard. I've read quite a few DD/lb with age play, and this felt pretty on par with that. Deke was very energetic and excitable and he went after what he wanted. He knew that Marshall was the one for him, and he never gave up hope, even when it started to look like maybe Marshall didn't want him after all.
I didn't love the impression Deke gave that he would jump into anything or become anything if only Marshall would finally be with him though. Yes, he's young and once he went down that rabbit hole he realized he loved it so he was discovering his kinks. But it definitely rubbed me wrong.
The actual pet play is probably still not something I'll seek out, but if I was going to, kitten play definitely seems much more palatable to me. Not yucking anyone's yum. Just confirming that it's really not my yum, and I'm glad this was the particular book that introduced me to this particular genre.
Overall, Deke was hilarious, it was sexy and sweet. There really wasn't much of a story beyond Deke finally convincing Marshall to be his, but if you're looking for low angst with some kink, that definitely works.
