It turned into much more and at the ending sentence I bawled my eyes out not bec. of any particular event in the book but bec. of the spirit of the protagonist and those like him, which I think we Americans will need to closely keep in mind these next 4 years, and be EVER vigilant.

One of the points is that real, legitimate dissatisfaction can be manipulated into support for authoritarianism. I actually found later chapters, when the government becomes a full-blown dictatorship, to be less interesting. (less)

Started reading it. Sadly it seems to be written by someone that thinks in binaries.

Sinclair was fellow traveler socialists and shockingly little to say about Stalin.

This book seems to be the go to read for modern Democrates (and media but I repeat myself) to analysis Trump. Four years later. He did not start any wars, and improved his vote share among persons of colour.

To be blunt I dont think Sinclair understands fascism that well (considering Mussolini was fascist and Hitler was a national socialist.) (less)
