David Anfam (1955-2024) was an international art writer, curator and consultant. Share a memory of David here

David worked with the world's foremost museums, collectors, publishers, artists/estates, art dealers and diverse scholarly institutions. They included the Royal Academy of Arts, London;

the National Gallery of Art, Washington; the Menil Collection, Houston; Yale University Press; Thames & Hudson; Skira;

The Burlington Magazine,The Art Newspaper, Christie's; Sotheby's; The Zeng Fanzhi Foundation and, as the

Henry Luce Visiting Professor in American Art,

Brandeis University.

 

Anfam held a B.A. Honors Degree (First Class) and a Ph.D. from the Courtauld Institute of Art, London. His expertise was especially associated with Abstract Expressionism – Mark Rothko, Clyfford Still, Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning,

David Smith and Philip Guston – as well as Edward Hopper, Conrad Marca-Relli, Wayne Thiebaud, Piero Dorazio and

Larry Poons.
