"Muddy" Mike Durbin was part of the crew that had killed the Southland Slasher's family. He'd mostly been in and out of jail for minor stuff, and most recently was arrested for a big stolen auto parts ring, for which he got bail with A & B Kilpatrick's Bail Bonds.
While jumping bail, he initially stayed with his girlfriend Marian Murietta in the apartments above Trip's Pawnshop in Santa Monica, before moving downtown to stay with his cohort Sean Milton at the Skyeline Apartments.
Sean and Muddy were enticed to an Abandoned Warehouse to complete a two-man job. Unfortunately, the Southland Slasher was laying in wait, who killed Milton, while Muddy escaped.
The Slasher later caught up with Muddy in his room at the Luckee Star Motel in Hollywood, killing him and then escaping out the window just as the prince's agent entered.
