Welcome to week 28 of the Art With Heart Colour Creations Blog Hop!
Our colour this week is one of the Bright Family Colours: Melon Mambo.
For my card this week I’ve paired Melon Mambo with Mossy Meadow and used a stunning new stamp set from the forthcoming Occasions catalogue: Incredible Like You.
I love all the tiny little stamps in this set, the font, the sentiments and the lovely big roses…just the perfect set to showcase Melon Mambo.
I stamped directly onto the wonderful Wood textures DSP and achieved depth and variety of colour by stamping off both the Mossy Meadow and the Melon Mambo.

Welcome to week 6 of our Art With Heart, Heart of Christmas blog hop.
I must admit that I have a bit of a soft spot for reindeer, even though I live in the southern hemisphere, so I was very excited to see this new bundle in the Holiday Catalogue: the Dashing Deer bundle.
I have so many ideas for cards using this bundle, but this week I thought I’d make a quick and simple card CASEd from a lovely design Claire Daly made last Christmas, using another Stampin Up deer thinlit.
Here’s Claire’s stunning card…this really has to be one of my favourite Christmas card designs of all time so I just couldn’t resist CASEing it for this week’s project. I hope you don’t mind, Claire!
I’ve adapted Claire’s design to suit the new Dashing Deer bundle as well as the gorgeous new Suite Season Specialty Washi Tape. Here’s a closer look at that stunning washi tape and the very elegant Dashing Deer thinlit that I’ve used on today’s card.
The Suite Season Specialty Washi Tape features the following colours: Cherry Cobbler, copper foil, Garden Green, gold foil, Real Red and silver foil, so you could so make many different variations of this card by simply using different coloured paper for the reindeer, background cardstock and the ribbon.
For today’s card, I decided to keep it quite traditional, cutting my deer out of sparkle glimmer paper, before adding a red rhinestone to his nose and tying a bow of real red ribbon around his neck.
The washi tape makes this card super quick and easy, but you could also adapt this design to use up strips of DSP instead. I really love this new Suite Season Specialty Washi Tape, especially the Garden Green tape with the white sprigs and the Whisper White tape with the little gold stars.
My final touch was the “Happiest Christmas Wishes” sentiment from the Dashing Deer stamp set, stamped in Real Red.
Thank you so much for the inspiration, Claire!
To see what the rest of the team have made this week hop over to the lovely Claire Daly’s blog.
Okay, so I’m technically a few days early (we celebrate Father’s Day on the the first Sunday in September here in Australia) but I wanted to share an idea for a quick and easy Father’s Day card in case you’re also struggling with ideas for a card for your dad.
When I go to design a card I often begin by thinking of a stamped image that I’d like to use and if you’re anything like me you probably find male cards harder to make than female cards. Unfortunately, most of my stamp sets tend to be feminine in nature and male stamp sets are often sport focused, but my dad is just not a sporty dad…apart from cricket and the Tour de France, which he stays up all night to watch!
So instead of designing my card by beginning with a stamp image in mind, I found it really helped to stop and think about:
what are my dad’s hobbies/interest/passions?
what colours does he like?
what did I really want to say to him?
My dad’s hobbies include gardening, woodworking, astronomy, music and reading so I wanted to design a card that reflected one of these hobbies. I’d already used the awesome Nailed It bundle to make him a birthday card and he really loved this card. I followed a tutorial I purchased from a UK demo, Amanda Bates at The Craft Spa …and here’s the card that I adapted for Dad’s birthday from her tutorial.
For Father’s Day I decided to instead focus on my dad’s love of music, so I stamped some very vanilla card stock using the sheet music background stamp. Because this is quite a busy background (and I wanted music to remain the focus) I knew all I needed was some ribbon and a sentiment to finish this card off.
I wanted to add a little bit of colour so I added some burlap ribbon, tranquil tide ribbon and a matching bow because I know that these earth tones are some of his favourite colours. The touches of nature elements are a nod to his love of gardening and nature.
Finally, I thought about what I really wanted to say to my dad and this is where the sentiment from the new Painted Harvest stamp set was just perfect: “I am thankful for you”. I’m so incredibly thankful to have my loving, generous, kind-hearted and super supportive dad in my life.
I finished the card off with a Happy Father’s Day sentiment inside from the Thoughtful Banners stamp set, because after all, it is a Father’s Day card…I just decided to have the more personal sentiment on the front of the card, but I could also have designed the card with the Father’s Day sentiment on the front and the other sentiment inside. I also used some of the stamps from the painted harvest set to decorate the inside of the card.
Now that I’ve sorted the card…the next tricky question is what do you give your dad for Father’s Day?
This year I’ve decided to give him something I know he really wants and something he’s actually asked for but we’ve never done before. I’m organising a photographer to take a family portrait for us, as all his grandchildren just keep growing and changing. And the rest of us are certainly not getting any younger!
If you’re stuck for an idea for your dad this year I reckon most dads would love the idea of a family portrait, because at the end of the day, that’s what Father’s Day is really about…our dads being with the ones they love the most, their family.
Live in Australia? You can purchase all the supplies I used for this card by clicking on the links below.
Today I wanted to share with you three cards I made with the new Eastern Beauty Bundle. I really challenged myself with these cards because Whisper White or Crumb Cake are my default base colours and I don’t usually feel as comfortable with Very Vanilla, however I really love these colour combinations. And the new Very Vanilla notecards make card making quick and easy because there’s no pre-cutting of card stock required by you.
This first card combines 2 of the new in colours: Tranquil Tide and Lemon Lime Twist and I’ve used some of the smaller stamps from the Eastern Beauty stamp set to create the diagonal pattern. The beautiful Eastern Palace Specially DSP is used on the front of the card as well as to make the matching envelope.
My second card teams up Lemon Lime Twist with Dapper Denim. It’s amazing how beautiful Lemon Lime Twist looks with so many other colours. It is such a vibrant colour but it actually works like a neutral, combining easily with such a wide range of colours.
Even though I’m more of a silver girl than a gold girl, I think this card is my favourite of the 3 cards. These Eastern Gold Vinyl Stickers and the stunning Gold DSP really pop on this card and gold and purple as such an elegant and timeless colour combination!
Even though I’ve use the matching DSP for these cards, the Eastern Beauty Bundle would work equally well using many other DSPs and ink colours. In fact, as soon as I get my hands on my new DSP this week I am going to try this design with the Foil Frenzy DSP and the matching inks.
What DSP would you use if you were gong to CASE this design and give it a fresh new look?
If you’d like to order any of the products I’ve used for this card, you’ll find the links below.
Today I’m excited to bring you a blog hop with some of the awesome ladies in the Art With Heart Stampin’ Up! Team.
Today we focus on the kids in our lives, from birthday cards to party ideas.
Sale-a-bration continues and this week we have three new additional items you can earn for free with a $90 order – ask me how!
As soon as I received my Occasions catalogue I knew I was just going to have to have the Beetles and Bugs stamp set. It instantly evoked memories of coming to the big smoke (i.e. Sydney) as a child and going to the Australian Museum with my parents when we put on our Sunday best and caught the train into the city.
As a child from the country, Sydney was total sensory overload!
We’d have lunch in a smart coffee shop in the city, visit the David Jones Food Hall and we were allowed to chose just one thing from the Nut Shop in the Strand Arcade.
There was always something new and exciting to see in the Australian Museum, but my favourite part was the insect collection. I think I loved the wide wooden drawers the insects were stored in as much as the insects themselves!
My love affair with beetles and bugs has continued to this day…as long they’re not in my house!
Stamp Sets for Boys Can Be So Hard to Find!
…which is why I love this set so much!
As a mother to two boys I instantly knew this stamp set would be incredibly useful. It’s also very versatile because beetles and bugs come in so many different colours, which means you can use any Stampin’ Up! ink you like with this set.
When making this card I decided to try a colour I hadn’t used before – Peekaboo Peach – and I just love how well it co-ordinates with Pumpkin Pie, Whisper White and Basic Black. I’ll definitely be using Peekaboo Peach again.
I used the layering circle framelits with basic black card stock and window sheets to make my magnifying glass and I’m really pleased with how realistic it looks, however it’s hard to photograph the ‘glass’ in the centre of my magnifying glass. Here’s a close-up to give you a bit of a better look.
The sentiment is from the Number of Years stamp set and because it is a photopolymer stamp I was able to bend it to exactly fit around the curve of the magnifying glass. The tiny number 6 is from the incredibly useful and versatile Labeler Alphabet stamp set.
Little Boys Always Love a Surprise!
The Party Pop-up Thinlits die would have to be one of my all time favourite dies to add that ‘wow’ factor to all of my birthday cards.
Both my boys would have loved to receive this card when they were younger…in fact I’m sure that even as teenagers they would still secretly love it today!
I hope you enjoy the versatility and ‘boy friendliness’ of the Beetles and Bugs set as much as I do.
Thanks for stopping by!
