David Niederhaus has announced his candidacy for Hill County sheriff in the March Republican Primary.
"I want to bring professional leadership to your sheriff’s office, he said. "I have more experience than any of my opponents—over 33 years. Additionally, I have a more diverse experience than any of my opponents."
He began his career with the Arlington Police Department serving in the jail. "One trait I developed at the Arlington Police Department was to listen. I learned that communication with people from different walks of life required a higher degree of listening as opposed to talking. With that, I have come to value listening to others more than talking. I have learned to effectively communicate with others using this philosophy."
His experience includes the Hill County Sheriff’s Office and assignments during his career as jailer, patrol officer, K-9 handler, sergeant, chief deputy and chief of police.
While serving as a sergeant with the Everman Police Department, Niederhaus was able to implement a K-9 program and continues to work with his K-9 partner, Cooper.
He trains K-9 units for other law enforcement agencies and is a Certifying Official with the National Narcotic Detector Dog Association (NNDDA).
Niederhaus holds a Master Peace Officer Certification with the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement. He is also a certified classroom instructor, firearms instructor, field training officer and holds an instructor’s license with Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT) Program.
He and his wife, Lisa, have been married for 20 years. Lisa is retired as a criminal investigator with the Internal Revenue Service.
"Though the Texas statutes assign many duties to the sheriff’s office, my initial focus will be to restore field services to the citizens and secure jail functions for Hill County," he said. "I have extensive experience from the lowest level through the highest command levels in both of those areas."
"My 33 years of knowledge and experience in a broad range of public safety fields provides the groundwork for me to bring quality leadership to the Hill County Sheriff’s Office."
