Apr 22, 2014-As the world celebrates Earth Day on Tuesday, actress Manisha Koirala and singer Ani Choying Drolma have expressed the need for an anthem for the earth. April 22 is celebrated as Earth Day every year.
“Our planet needs an official anthem, a song that everyone across the world can sing along with their respective national anthem,” Koirala said in her message from Mumbai. “I commend the effort made by poet-diplomat Abhay Kumar towards
getting an official anthem for our planet.”
Abhay is the first secretary at the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu and secretary at the B.P. Koirala India-Nepal Foundation. A columnist for The Kathmandu Post, Abhay’s work has also been published in a number of other Asian newspapers.
An earth anthem that
eulogises the earth, its diversity as well as beauty, could also act as common thread to link all earth related events such as the Earth Day, Earth Hour, World Environment Day, and unite every one, said Abhay.
UNESCO recently hailed the idea of an official earth anthem proposed by the Indian poet-diplomat claiming it as a creative and inspiring thought that would contribute bringing the world together.
