"Owl Eyes was an excellent deputy while you and Lightning Tail were gone. Leaf and Gooseberry got into an argument about the nests in the warriors' den, and Owl Eyes figured out a solution every cat could live with. He managed so well that I didn't even know there was an argument until it was over." |
— Violet Dawn to Thunderstar, suggesting Owl Eyes as deputy in Thunderstar's Echo, chapter 8 |
Owlstar is a lean, lithe, sleek,[10] broad shouldered[11] dark gray tom[9] with a wide forehead,[11] and wide, brilliant, amber eyes.[2]
Owlstar was the second leader of ThunderClan. He was born as Owl Eyes to Turtle Tail and Tom, alongside Pebble Heart and Sparrow Fur. He grieved, along with his siblings, when Turtle Tail was hit by a monster and and the trio were raised on the moor by their adopted father, Gray Wing. After the groups split, he joined Clear Sky's camp in the forest, and eventually he followed Thunder after leaving his father's group to make a new camp. Thunder's camp later became ThunderClan, and Owl Eyes became a warrior under Thunder's leadership and gained his own apprentice, Snail Shell. Owl Eyes soon succeeded Lightning Tail as deputy after the latter's death, and later succeeded Thunderstar as ThunderClan's second leader. Owlstar ascended to StarClan after his death.

Dawn of the Clans[]
- «Though [Gray Wing] had never had his own kits, Pebble Heart, Sparrow Fur, and Owl Eyes had seemed like his, and he still missed them now that they'd left the moor to live among the pines and the oaks. Yet he was proud that they'd followed their instincts and chosen their own homes.»
- —Gray Wing on his adopted kits Path of Stars, page 2
- Upon the news that Tom is in Clear Sky's group, Owl Eyes is shocked at the negative reaction, worrying that it must mean the other cats don't like him either. After Tom is killed by One Eye, he becomes despondent, feeling guilt when Gray Wing disappears after admitting he wasn't his real father. After the group is ordered by the spirit-cats to separate, Owl Eyes and Sparrow Fur join Clear Sky in the forest. However, Owl Eyes eventually decides to follow Thunder when the forest camp splits, and the group is named ThunderClan by Silver Stripe.
