HarperCollins Publishers L.L.C is one of the world's largest publishing companies and is one of the Big Five English-language publishing companies.[3] It is a subsidiary of News Corporation,[1] and has published all existing books in the Warriors series.[4]

Biography[]

In 1817, James and John Harper opened a modest print shop in New York City, which came to be known as Harper and Brothers. From 1833 to 1962, they operated under this name until their merging with Row, Peterson & Co to form Harper & Row. In 1987, Harper & Row was acquired by News Corporation alongside Scottish publisher, William Collins, Sons & Co, which was founded in 1819, and is known for its published works of Bibles, dictionaries, and reprinted classics. These two publishers were merged together in 1989 to form HarperCollins as it is known today.[5]

"At HarperCollins, authors and their work are at the center of everything we do. We are proud to provide our authors with unprecedented editorial excellence, marketing reach, long-standing connections with booksellers, and industry-leading insight into reader and consumer behavior. Consistently at the forefront of innovation and technological advancement, HarperCollins also uses digital technology to create unique reading experiences and expand the reach of our authors."

Published works[]

Warriors[]

HarperCollins has been the publisher of all Warriors series books since 2003, when Into the Wild first debuted.[4] Since then, they have continued to publish all subsequent installments.[6]
The concept for Warriors began development when HarperCollins asked Victoria Holmes to write a fantasy series about feral cats. Holmes was initially not enthusiastic, saying she "couldn't imagine coming up with enough ideas". However, she played with some story concepts, developing a fictional world with the added elements of war, politics, revenge, doomed love, and religious conflict.[7]

Other books[]

HarperCollins has a current digital and print catalog of over 200,000 titles, and publishes roughly 10,000 books a year.[1] You can find a full list here. The following is a small list of some of their published works.

Editors[]

  • The Story Team is a group of editors working on the Warriors series who publish articles on the Warrior Cats website. They are responsible for developing the overarching storylines for each book and editing the final manuscripts.[12] They often publish articles revealing their brainstorming process for the series[13] and certain characters.[14]
  • Stephanie Stein was a one of the lead editors for Warriors at HarperCollins.[15] She has been working on the series since at least 2016,[16] and she has worked with James Barry on his graphic novels.[17] In May 2023, Stephanie departed HarperCollins to work as a senior editor for Tor Books.[18]
