- The song appeared in the 12th seasons of the The Simpsons in their House of Horror XIX special, which features a villainous Homer Simpson hired to kill famous celebrities.
- The song appeared in the 2006 mockumentary film Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon as it's played in the end credits scene of Leslie Vernon sitting up from an autopsy table, still alive.
- The song appeared on the 4th season of Stranger Things and its soundtrack.

- After of the songs released, it was instantly connected to David "Son of Sam" Berkowitz's killing spree.
- It was later debunked by David Byrn, who began writing before Berkowitz's arrest. Which he stated "When I started writing this (I got help later), I imagined Alice Cooper doing a Randy Newman-type ballad. Both the Joker and Hannibal Lecter were much more fascinating than the good guys. Everybody sort of roots for the bad guys in movies".
