Chew is a supporting antagonist in the Season 1 of the 2023 live-action series One Piece, based on the anime/manga franchise of the same name.
He is one of the two officers of Arlong Pirates (alongside Kuroobi) who is capable of using his mouth for range attacks.
He is portrayed by Len-Barry Simons.
Biography[]
Eight years ago, Chew was already part of the Arlong Pirates and was involved in the attack on Cocoyasi Village. He was also there when Nami went to Arlong shortly afterwards and made a deal with him, after which she became part of the gang.
Eight years later, together with Arlong and Kuroobi, Chew went to Baratie searching for Straw Hat Luffy. Chew carried the backpack containing Buggy's head, which put them on Luffy's trail. At Arlong's signal, he unpacked Buggy's head and placed it on the table when Luffy asked how they had found him. When a fight broke out, Chew was initially kicked away by Sanji, but did not have to intervene because Sanji and Luffy were inferior to their opponents Kuroobi and Arlong. The three fish-men and Nami returned with the map to the Grand Line and then to the Conomi Islands. In the Arlong Park, Chew played cards with Nami and Hachi until Nami was called to Arlong. In the evening, the fish-men celebrated and Chew heated up the crowd with his skills by spitting out alcohol and using a torch to shoot small fireballs into the night sky. Later, Arlong addressed his comrades and incited them to take action against the humans. With the map to the Grand Line, he wanted to put his plan to subjugate humanity into action. That same evening, they then attacked the village and burned it down. However, the Straw Hats were also on the Conomi Islands and took over the fight for the villagers who wanted to stand up against the fish-men the next morning. They went to Arlong Park and kicked down the gate. Chew wondered who could be so stupid as to attack them and instructed his comrades to fend off the intruders. Usopp shot a smoke bomb in his face and fled into the forest, whereupon Chew followed him. He took a big swig from his bottle and fired countless projectiles at Usopp, who was hiding behind an overturned tree trunk. When Usopp showed himself and wanted to attack, he was hit by Chew and fell down an embankment. Although the hit did not cause any real damage, Usopp had rubbed himself with ketchup and pretended to be dead, which Chew fell for and wanted to make his way back to the Arlong Park. But then Usopp got up and shot a fireball at the alcohol bottle in Chew's hand. The explosion threw him away and he remained burned on the ground. It is not known whether he survived this, but if he did, he was probably arrested by the Marines, because Vice Admiral Garp later had his unit hunt down the fugitive Arlong Pirates.
Appearance[]
Chew is an archer fish-type fishman with shoulder-length blonde hair parted in the middle. He has very large lips and thick eyebrows. He has the Arlong Pirate's Jolly Roger tattooed on his right upper arm and another tattoo directly below it. He has gills on his neck, which he also wears a chain on. He wears a blue vest, short black pants and a blue bracelet on each wrist. He also wears black shoes. On the way to the Baratie he also carried the backpack in which Buggy's head was stored.
Eight years ago, he wore long black pants and a buttoned long-sleeved shirt with a dark pattern. Around his waist he wore a brown sash with a pistol stuck in it.
Powers and Abilities[]
Chew is undoubtedly one of the strongest members of the Arlong gang. In battle, he often uses his mouth, which he can use to shoot liquids like projectiles.
