Yara Greyjoy is a supporting character in HBO series Game of Thrones. She is an ironborn raider born to Balon Greyjoy and sister of Theon Greyjoy.
She was portrayed by Gemma Whelan.
Her Evil Ranking[]
Her Villainous Deeds[]
- At her father's behest, she decides to raid the North in the absence of protection from Robb Stark's army and even mocks Theon before he sides with his speech, very possibly because of this.
- She mocks Theon constantly, even pretending to be just a girl who has a crush on him.
- After Theon is captured and severely tortured by Ramsay Bolton, she takes the best of her men to fight the Boltons in an attempt to bring him home. However Theon refuses to return which causes many warriors to be killed (although this should also be seen as a heroic thing).
- Threatens to kill her aunt Huron after he murdered her father.
- She steals all the Ironmen's ships to recruit for Daenerys Tragyrion.
- She claims to Daenerys that the way to the Iron Islands is to ferret and loot, although she agrees to stop this for the alliance with Daenerys.
- Beats Theon after rescuing her before she tries to conquer the Iron Islands in Euron's absence.
- After Daenerys' murder at the hands of Jon, she calls for him to be killed, though quickly silenced by Arya Stark.
Why she Doesn't Stand Out?[]
- Despite being a tough warrior she easily falls short of the despicable standard in the series, even compared to other warriors of the Iron Islands such as her aunt Huron and her father Baylon.
- Although not all of her actions are covered under her father's instruction, she still does many of them under his instruction or for his rule.
- She cares for her mother, especially her brother Theon as well as her father.
- She is very respectable, allows Theon to fight for the North against the moves and also promises not to laugh at his disability.
- She has standards and is shocked both by what Ramsay did to Theon and by Aunt Euron's behavior towards women.
- She is an anti-villain who also functions as an on-off hero.
Trivia[]
- She was based on the character "Asha Greyjoy" from A Song of Ice and Fire. She was renamed "Yara" to avoid confusion with the wildling Osha.
