Sonic Origins: Multiplayer Edition is a DLC expansion of Sonic Origins, and Sonic Origins Plus, adding a multiplayer mode (up to 4 players) for all four games. It was developed by Sonic Team and Azumanga Games Entertainment (only on the Bandai Namco consoles), and published by Sega. Like the original Sonic Origins, it was only released digitally as a DLC expansion for the major Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft consoles, as well as on Steam. However, the Bandai Namco consoles got both physical and digital releases of the game. It was later ported onto the Bandai Nitro Blast.

In addition to the multiplayer mode, the game also adds more playable characters, each with their own abilities. The Bandai Namco version developed by Azumanga Games Entertainment, adds 8 more playable characters from Azumanga Daioh.

See Wikipedia or Sonic Wiki Zone for more information.

Differences[]

  • Unlike the original (prior to Plus), all of the characters are available by default.
  • Classic mode is omitted, in favor of the multiplayer mode. Only the anniversary mode can be played.
  • Story mode can now be played both single and multiplayer.
  • The Sonic 3 & Knuckles shields are in every game, with the abilities for Sonic and the other characters.
  • The original Sonic CD cheat codes have been added to the Bandai Namco console versions, in addition to unlocking the codes normally.
    • You can unlock Stage Select and Sound/Music Test on the title screen like the original Sega CD version.
    • New codes were added to unlock Visual Mode and all Chaos Emeralds in the Sound/Music Test.
  • When a player dies in multiplayer mode, they respond like how Tails does with Sonic, except the non-flying characters jump back in (similar to how it's done in Sonic Classic Heroes).
  • Thanks to Bandai Namco Entertainment and Azumanga Games Entertainment handling the Michael Jackson controversy, the original Sonic 3 music composed by Michael Jackson were restored back as an option to turn on or off in the Bandai Namco console versions of Sonic 3 & Knuckles.
