In one of the first deals at the Sundance Film Festival, Magnolia Pictures has acquired world rights to the comedy “Results,” ahead of its Jan. 27 world premiere at the festival.

Guy Pearce, Cobie Smulders and Kevin Corrigan star in “Results,” with Andrew Bujalski directing from his own script.

The film is set in the fitness world of Austin, Texas, with Corrigan as a recently divorced, miserable slob who makes a stab at self-improvement by signing up for a personal trainer at a local gym, where he meets the self-styled guru/owner (Pearce) and acerbic trainer Kat (Smulders).

Bujalski’s “Computer Chess” debuted at Sundance in 2013.

Giovanni Ribisi, Anthony Michael Hall, Brooklyn Decker and Constance Zimmer also star. The film was produced by Paul Bernon, Sam Slater and Houston King; executive producers were David Bernon, Greg Stewart and Sev Ohanian.

Magnolia plans a summer theatrical release for the film. It will also be selling international rights next month at Berlin.
