Kraid is a recurring antagonist in the Metroid series who was originally planned to appear as a boss in Metroid Prime but was cut due to time restrictions and programming issues. Because of his in-game appearance and Ridley's return as Meta Ridley, fans have referred to this version of him as Meta Kraid.
History[]
Kraid was originally planned to be a boss encountered at Phazon Mines and fought in a room that was removed from the final game. Kraid's head would have been protected by metal plating and Samus would need to make objects fall from above to harm him while avoiding his missile attacks and manoeuvring across platforms Kraid would flip over. However, programming the battle proved to be problematic for developers and development time was short as the game's release date drew near. Because of these issues, it was decided that Kraid would be removed and replaced by the Omega Pirate; who already existed in the game at the time.
