Legend of the Stone (石の神話, Ishi no Shinwa) is the second episode of Ultraman Tiga.

Synopsis[]

A series of bizarre incidents in which people have been petrified have occurred on Kurara Island. This is all the work of the monster Gakuma that lives on this island. Daigo and his team use their Guts Wings, which have been retrofitted for use against monsters, to intercept the Gakuma that has rampaged onto the ground. Just when they were relieved that they had finally defeated Gakuma, another Gakuma appeared from the rumbling ground!

Summary[]

After several miners were petrified by an underground monster, TPC sent an investigative team to Kurara Island. Gakuma killed two TPC members that investigated the mines. One TPC member was able to escape and reported back about the monster attack, proving its existence. While trying to track down Golza, who had fled from the land of Tiga, GUTS was alerted by Inspector General Souichiro Sawai of a monster appearance on Kurara Island. With GUTS unprepared to fight monsters, the Inspector General ordered the GUTS Ride Mecha to be retrofitted with weaponry for battle. Sawai personally arrived on Kurara Island to examine the situation. The miners gave on conflicting reports on the monster's appearance, arguing whether it had one horn or two.

Daigo and Jun Yazumi analyzed the Giant's battle together. Yazumi concluded that it had only approximately three minutes of active time on Earth as it couldn't chase the escaping Golba, when the lamp on its chest began to flash. The Giant could change from its red and purple form into an all red or all purple appearance, gaining either more strength or more speed respectively while sacrificing the other trait when doing so. Wondering why only one of the three Giants reawakened, Yazumi replayed Yuzare's message but still couldn't decipher its missing audio. However, to Daigo, the message continued playing and Yuzare revealed the key to reviving Giant of Light was for him to become light. Yuzare addressed Daigo, who inherited the DNA of Ultra-Ancient warriors, as Ultraman Tiga, but he refused to accept it and tossed away his Sparklence, the very proof of him being Tiga. He wondered why her civilization perished even though it was so advanced and had the protection of the Giants of Light. She revealed the Giants of Light could not interfere with the actions of mankind, but Daigo was different as he was both human and light. Daigo took back his Sparklence when Yazumi found thrown on the floor.

After the investigative team tried to detonate Gakuma to no avail, General Sawai ordered GUTS to deploy immediately. The GUTS Wing-1 was finished in time and Rena and Munakata arrived on the scene. They maneuvered to avoid its petrifying beam but were knocked down by its claws. The two were able to abandon the GUTS Wing but were nearly trampled by Gakuma's foot. GUTS Wing 2's Hyper Mode was completed in time and it saved them from Gakuma. They fired the DEXUS Beam which instantly killed the Rock Monster. Just as they were relieved to defeat Gakuma, they felt a large earthquake and the second Gakuma appeared. Gakuma β blocked their way to GUTS Wing 2 and quickly approached. Daigo used the Sparklence to become the Giant of Light once again to save GUTS and TPC's investigate team from Gakuma β. Gakuma β's eletric shock from its horns got him by surprise and was nearly turned to stone, but he change to Power Type and broke free to destroy Gakuma with his Deracium Beam Torrent.

After the monster had been defeat, GUTS returned to the Dive Hangar where Staff Officer Masayuki Nahara commended the team's efforts and recognized that they'll have to keep up with the new technology. Daigo finally accepted his destiny as Ultraman Tiga, and suggested the name to the team rather than addressing it as just "the giant".
