Ultraman Gaia: Gaia Again (ウルトラマンガイア ガイアよ再び, Urutoraman Gaia Gaia yo Futatabi) is a 2001 direct-to-video special set one year after the end of Ultraman Gaia.

The movie can be watched on Tubi and Shout.

Production[]

This work is the third installment in the 2001 direct-to-video special series based on the TDG series. The story is set one year after the events of Ultraman Gaia episode 51, "Earth is Ultraman's Star," and follows Gamu as he faces a new enemy. The XIG team, "Team Marlin," which appeared only once in the TV series, also returns in this film as a central team.

In fact, when the production of Ultraman Tiga Side Story: Revival of the Ancient Giant was confirmed, Tsuburaya Productions' president, Kazuo Tsuburaya, proposed creating original video works for Ultraman Dyna and Ultraman Gaia well. With the support of producer Nobuyuki Koyama and Tsuburaya Productions, Takeshi Yagi, who had served as an assistant director on Ultraman Gaia, was chosen to direct this project, while the screenplay was handled by Chiaki J. Konaka, the main writer for the TV series.[1]

Due to the passage of time since the TV series ended and the growth of Gamu and Fujimiya, the reappearance of Gaia and Agul posed fewer limitations in terms of setting. The atmosphere on set continued from the series, making this film the easiest to bring to life. However, since this work was the last to be produced of the three, producer Koyama mentioned that the time schedule was very tight.

Synopsis[]

After defeating Zog and ending his battle as Ultraman, Gamu returns to student life, while Fujimiya, in an effort to protect Earth’s kaiju, becomes a fugitive as she interferes with G.U.A.R.D.'s attack operations.

One day, Gamu is called back to XIG for an underwater investigation. Meanwhile, a mysterious girl appears before the fugitive Fujimiya, and soon after, a kaiju reemerges from the depths of the ocean. The two once again use the Esplender and Agriator to transform into Gaia and Agul, respectively, and confront the new enemy.

Trivia[]

Voice from the Abyss

The draft script for "Voice from the Abyss"

  • In the draft script, the subtitle of this work is "Voice from the Abyss" (深淵からの声, Shin'en kara no Koe).
  • Like the Tiga and Dyna OVs, the special is much longer in the 2004 DVD re-release with an extended scene that did not appear in the original release. The reason for the running time being reduced in the original release might be because of time constraints.
  • The spin-off was added to TSUBURAYA IMAGINATION's streaming lineup on December 7, 2024.[6]
