Summary[]
In Cody’s penthouse, Cody Jones is finishing his latest ninja training session with Master Splinter. Impressed with Cody’s progress, Splinter proposes the young boy take a field test to determine his abilities. Splinter holds up an egg and a map, on which a route has been plotted that winds through a hazardous part of the city. Cody asks why he needs an egg and Splinter tells him that a true ninja possesses sensitivity as well as a mastery of the martial arts. He hands the egg to Cody and tells him that a true ninja will return the egg unharmed.
Cody promises to protect the egg with his life. However, Serling is worried and asks if Cody really wants to risk his life on a stupid test. Serling doubts that Uncle Darius would approve. Neither of them notice the little spider hanging from the ceiling nearby. As Cody is telling Serling that this is his big chance to prove himself, a closeup of the spider reveals that it is a robotic spy bug. Cody examines the map and confidently asks what is the worst that could happen? No one in the penthouse realizes that the spy spider is transmitting information to Jammerhead and the Street Phantoms. Jammerhead decides this will be a great opportunity to kidnap Cody and demand a small fortune in ransom from O’Neil Tech. He orders one of his minions to gather the other Street Phantoms, as he has scanned a copy of Cody’s map.
The Turtles, Splinter and Cody leave the penthouse in the Hovershell. En route to their location, Leonardo tells Cody that he is finally ready to embark on the warrior’s path. Cody replies that he hopes so. After they drop the boy off at his starting point, Splinter asks Leo if something is troubling him. Leo says that Serling had brought up a good point earlier in saying the city can be very dangerous. Splinter agrees and tells his sons that this is why he has decided on a second test – one to challenge his sons’ ninja skills.
Splinter tells them that using the art of the ninja, they will conceal themselves as they secretly follow and protect Cody. The Turtles head out and soon catch up to Cody, watching him from atop a tall building. They see him heading towards a construction site that his map instructs him to make his way through. Michelangelo complains that he’s bored and would rather be playing video games. Raphael agrees, stating that he’s a warrior, not a babysitter. At that moment, Donatello tells him that if he wants action, he’ll get some as he points out the Street Phantoms who are after Cody.
The Turtles swiftly take on the Street Phantoms at the construction site, doing so without drawing Cody’s notice. After defeating that group of Street Phantoms, the Turtles continue following Cody as he takes a route through the sewer system. In order to traverse an area of deep water, Cody clings to and crawls along an overhead pipe. Another pair of Street Phantoms phase through the walls of the tunnel as they attempt to grab him, but the Turtles rise up from the waters and make short work of the pair. Cody looks back when he hears a noise, but all he sees is a couple of areas where the water seems disturbed.
Back at the penthouse, Serling is taking the opportunity of a quiet household to do some dusting. He notices the “spider” and immediately smashes it. The feedback from the spy spider’s destruction blasts Jammerhead and gives him a splitting headache. Soon after, Cody returns home, much to Serling’s relief. As Cody returns the unharmed egg to Splinter, he asks why the Turtles aren’t there to greet him. Splinter informs the boy that the Turtles are all napping in the living room, as they also had a challenging day.
