Planet Vought is a themed restaurant chain inspired by the popular portrayal of Vought-owned superheroes.
The Boys Series[]
Background[]
Introduced by Vought International in 2001, Planet Vought is a chain of themed restaurants with multiple locations worldwide, located in some of the world's largest and most prominent cities, such as New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston, Las Vegas, London, Paris, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Sydney, and Dubai.[1]
Boasting a diverse menu that caters to a range of food preferences, Planet Vought is known for its popular Big Homie Burger served with bacon and its Mocha Noir milkshake. After the character of Queen Maeve was publicly outed, Vought launched a line of vegetarian pride-themed food products, including a new "Brave Maeve" rainbow veggie burger, which is now available at select Planet Vought locations."
Season Two[]
In an attempt to bond with his son, Homelander and Stormfront take Ryan to a crowded Planet Vought restaurant where the two heroes are mobbed by fans. As the fans cluster around, Ryan becomes overwhelmed with the sensory overload, and Homelander flies away with him to get away from the crowd.[2]
Trivia[]
- The restaurant Planet Vought is a parody of Planet Hollywood, a cheesy themed restaurant chain centered around movies.
- It's also reminiscent in name and concept to Planet Kypton, another tacky superhero-themed restaurant located but within the DC universe, from the Mark Waid and Alex Ross mini-series Kingdom Come. Like Planet Vought and many aspects of the Boys universe, Planet Kypton also functions as commentary on the banal commercialism and commodification of superhero fiction and mythology.
- Vought's decision to release vegetarian pride-themed food products following Queen Maeve's public identification as "lesbian" (even though she is actually bisexual) serves as a direct criticism of rainbow capitalism, a phenomenon where corporations exploit the LGBT+ movement for profit without genuinely supporting the community's interests.
- On June 2021, Amazon Studios unveiled a Planet Vought themed three-day pop-up at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles as a promotional tie-in for The Boys. It was billed as a "one-of-a-kind, immersive drive-thru restaurant" celebrating Planet Vought's "grand opening" event. Each car-load got an exclusive 40-minute experience with themed food and a drive-thru environment filled with characters, visuals, and elements from The Boys universe.[3]
