Polystyle Publications, Ltd. was the main licence-holder for Doctor Who English-language comic strips published in the 1960s and 1970s.

Originally incorporated as TV Publications, on 12 May 1960, Polystyle (renamed in 1968) published a range of weekly anthology titles gathering together strips mostly based on popular contemporary television shows: these included TV Comic and TV Action (originally Countdown) – which included the Doctor Who strips between 1964 and 1979 – as well as Target, Pippin, Playland, and BEEB. The company was dissolved in 1997 due to insolvency.

Significantly, the company opted not to renew their licence with the BBC in mid-1979; on realising this, the then Editorial Director at Marvel UK, Dez Skinn, promptly drew up an agreement with the Corporation to originate and publish new Doctor Who strips within bespoke publications in both the UK and America. The first issue of Doctor Who Weekly was published in October 1979, just five months after the Doctor’s final appearance in TV Comic; the debut issue’s lead comic strip, Doctor Who and the Iron Legion, was subsequently reprinted in American comic book Marvel Premiere in December 1980.
