Hera Hoffer (born 18 September 1987[1]), known professionally as Jinkx Monsoon, is an American drag queen, actress, comedian and singer who portrayed Maestro in the Doctor Who television story The Devil's Chord.

She was interviewed on the Behind the Scenes episode The Devil's Chord: Behind the Scenes, the Doctor Who: Unleashed episode The Devil's Chord and the documentaries Jinkx Monsoon vs BRITISH FOOD and The Looks of Maestro.

She is best known for winning the fifth season of RuPaul's Drag Race in 2013, along with the special all winners seventh season of RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars in 2022.[2]

Early life[]

Hera Hoffer was born in Portland, Oregon, and first performed in drag at age 15 at the all-ages Escape Nightclub. Her original drag name was going to be "Heidi Destruction" before settling on Jinkx Monsoon. She attended da Vinci Arts Middle School and Grant High School. Hoffer was raised Catholic, and discovered Russian-Jewish ancestry on her mother's side at the age of 18. Her drag character, Jinkx, is characterized as Jewish as a way of reconnecting with this part of her heritage.[source needed]

Hoffer worked as a custodian through college and graduated with a BFA in theatre from Cornish College of the Arts in 2010. She has lived in Seattle, Washington since 2006. By October 2018, she moved back to Portland and currently live in a house named Monsoon Manor.[source needed]
