Granville

Granville was a small fishing town on the northern coast of France.

History[]

In the early 18th century, a wealthy naval officer commissioned the architect Jean Lassurance to build the Granville townhouse. Lassurance completed the townhouse in 1715 and some experts considered it one of the best examples of his earliest work.

During the Second World War, the Luftwaffe zbV moved into Granville and the surrounding area after Nazi Germany's occupation of France, using the townhouse as its regional headquarters. The Luftwaffe made use of an air field outside the town and also constructed another camouflaged air field to work on the Hartung Project.

On 5 March 1941, Granville was ravaged by the Royal Air Force in a bid to destroy all work relating to the Hartung Project. Every building in the town was destroyed and 1,450 people were killed. The camouflaged airfield remained undetected and survived. The Seventh Doctor and Chris Cwej experience the raid. (PROSE: Just War)
