Ferrara was a village in Italy.

On 11 July 1982, the Eighth Doctor visited Ferrara, where he joined in the public celebrations of Italy's 3-1 World Cup victory over West Germany. Unbeknownst to the revellers, however, Ferrara (and the world beyond) was being invaded by the Threllips. The Doctor and his companion Charlotte Pollard stopped them by convincing them that the jubilation in Ferrara was actually a sign of an illness called "World Cup Fever", to which the Threllips were also susceptible.
