Senior Surgeon Arak Varren was a surgeon at Kaldor City Hospital.
Biography[]
Varren mentored a number of med-tech trainees at Kaldor City Hospital, including Liv Chenka. During her final cadaver exam, he willed her to do well from the gallery. He was assigned a robot, SV57, as a personal assistant and learnt that it was sentient. Having developed Yanshi syndrome, which caused repetitive spasms and limited his control of his fingers, he and SV57 agreed to help one another cover up their deficiences.
SV57 had its memories wiped eighteen times for reasons unspecified, allowing Varren to cover up his mistakes, and also a further five times for surgical errors. In truth, these errors were the murders of influential roboticists such as Chief Robotics Officer Jasdar Crick.
At the hospital, Varren bumped into Liv, who speculated on his condition. He later saw that she was working at the hospital and, as someone with little experience with post-mortems, had her perform Jasdar Crick's in the hope that his role would not be discovered. However, this was unsuccessful. Per his command, SV57 took the blame, but Liv looked into SV57 and determined the truth, convincing him to resign.
In retirement, Varren found himself bored. He was confronted by Liv and Tula Chenka who had worked out the true nature of his relationship with SV57 and told them that SV57 was to murder someone on his orders. He was later taken by Vocs to the Law Enforcement Station. (AUDIO: The Robots of Life)
Personality[]
Varren detested robots. As a man who saved lives, he sometimes found it difficult to take lives despite how objectionable he found the roboticists. (AUDIO: The Robots of Life)
