Vector Hex was a human male born on Centares in 37 BBY. Vector was enrolled with the Corulag Academy and entered service with the Galactic Republic Third Fleet under admiral Callius Kyro, commanding the Genesis.

During the Imperial Period, Vector served under vice admiral Norven Loyaler in the Amarasis Fleet. However, as time progressed he was gradually promoted to the rank of rear admiral and gained command of his own fleet, before suffering a mutiny at the hands of his captain. Vector was subsequently charged with betrayal and went missing.

In 4 ABY, Vector came out of hiding and defected to the Rebel Alliance, serving as both general and later admiral within the Alliance Fleet. Earlier, a bounty hunter, Esa Napolae Daruun was hired by his former superior, Norven Loyaler, to hunt him down, with limited success.

When the Alliance transformed into the New Republic, Vector continued to command New Republic forces up until 8 ABY: the battle of his homeworld, upon which he resigned his position and lobbied to become the senator of Centares.

During the Yuuzhan Vong War, Vector resumed service aboard the Precursor in command of the Eighth Fleet once again. In 29 ABY, he briefly served as the Supreme Commander of the Galactic Alliance Defense Force, replacing Traest Kre'fey, before retiring again in 30 ABY.

Biography[]

Birth and early life[]

Vector Hex was born on Centares in 37 BBY. His parents were the Regus and Estrella Hex, who jointly operated a small ship repairing yard known as Hexanics. By 23 BBY, Regus had become a Republic senator, representing their homeworld. Later that year, Vector was enrolled into the Corulag Academy prematurely at the expense of his father.

Vector became a brilliant military strategist, surpassing many of his peers at the academy at impressive speed as he dedicated much of his early life to his future line of work. As a result, much of his free time was spent at the academy studying additional courses, including a starfighter course, teaching him to become a skilled pilot. However, due to his tight schedule, contact with his parents rapidly whittled away, and it was only six months later − when he had entered service − that Vector learned of his father's death in 19 BBY.

While he was distraught over his father's death and craved revenge, duty required him to be in optimal state as the Clone Wars escalated. When he entered service, he had gained command of the Genesis, an ageing Dreadnaught-class heavy cruiser refitted with slave circuitry. He was promptly assigned to the Galactic Republic Third Fleet, under the command of admiral Callius Kyro.

Republic service[]

Vector was to be involved in the Victory Campaign, a strategic plan devised by several of the brightest Republic military minds to close the war. A preemptive strike put an end to that however, the battle of Leclite, resulted in admiral Kyro's death and the stepping up of captain Norven Loyaler, acting as captain-of-the-line for the duration of the battle. While Norven was promoted to rear admiral for his show of skill, the Third Fleet was not to operate in the campaign and deployed elsewhere, to Norven's dismay.

Vector participated in a series of battles in the Outer Rim, including the Cybe theater and the battle of Foron. While initially on the backfoot in the Cybe theater, the Republic, in large part due to Norven, turned the tide and struck several victories, resulting in the deaths of many of the Confederate leaders involved. Similarly, Foron was a Republic victory, striking both a Confederate fleet and planetary separatist leaders. During the Clone Wars, Vector often himself flew out in an ARC-170.

Imperial service[]

While initially pragmatic concerning his service to Norven, relations between both officers turned sour, and by the time of the Norven's expedition, Vector had already been detached from the fleet.

In fact, Vector was granted command of the Tector-class Rectifier and placed in charge of his own fleet.

Despite in active service, Vector's career was actually in limbo: Vector possessed neither the manpower nor the experience to mount operations despite his rank stating otherwise. As a result, Vector was often deployed in conjunction with other officers or relegated to patrol duties in the Mid Rim.

In 3 BBY, shortly after a mission debriefing, Vector suffered a mutiny led by his captain. Despite putting down the mutiny, this led Imperial High Command to discharge and place an arrest warrant on him. After learning of said warrant, Vector deserted and disappeared to the Unknown Regions.

Desertion and defection[]

Little is known about Vector's whereabouts in the years following his desertion, although it was noted he steered clear from Chiss space. In his absence from the known galaxy he had however began to provide the Alliance with information and Imperial secrets.

While Vector's officers initially followed him in his defection, some, including captain Lucan Morces of the Empire's Retribution, eventually deserted from Vector's service.

Prior to the battle of Endor, Vector's former colleague, Norven Loyaler – now a ranked officer and admiral in the Imperial Navy – had hired the Krex bounty hunter Esarion to work alongside Vector's former captain, Lucan Morces, to hunt him down.

At some point, Lucan and Esa had been convinced they had found Vector and killed him on his Star Destroyer. It would only be years later they'd discover the Vector they had killed was a decoy.

In 4 ABY, after the battle of Endor, a number of Alliance officers had been taken prisoner in a string of Imperial victories. Vector revealed the location of the Bastion, a high security Imperial facility he assumed to contain these officers.

Later that year, Vector revealed himself to the Alliance and entered service in the Alliance Fleet.

Alliance and New Republic service[]

Vector's service with the Imperial Navy proved beneficial as upon his defection, Vector was placed in charge of the New Republic Eighth Fleet of the New Republic Defense Fleet.

Vector remained in active naval service up until 8 ABY when his homeworld, Centares, was liberated by the New Republic. Upon his retirement from the navy, Hex entered politics and strived to become the senator for Centares, representing his homeworld in the resuscitated New Republic Senate.

As senator, Vector lobbied for greater representation of Outer Rim planets, which while provided by the senate, was limited due to continued instability in the Outer Rim, reinforced by the illusion set by the neglectance of Outer Rim planets under the Galactic Republic.

Yuuzhan Vong war[]

When the New Republic was enveloped in another war, Vector was one of many skeptics who did not perceive how grave a threat the Yuuzhan Vong could be, strengthened by the far-off incursion. As a result, despite the successes in previous wars during the Imperial Skirmishes and Second Imperium Crisis, Vector was greatly hesitant about plunging the New Republic into yet another war.

However, with the invasions of Sernpidal and Dubrillion, it became clear the choice they perceived to exist was an illusion, and the New Republic was yet again at war.
