Orlock was a male Kubaz spy who worked for the Confederacy of Independent Systems during the Clone Wars before being captured by Republic Intelligence and defecting to the Galactic Republic. For about a year, he served in the Internal Security Bureau of the Republic. After it was reformed into the Galactic Empire, Orlock worked for the Imperial Security Bureau, holding the rank of captain. He preformed several tasks, including spying on other Bureau officers. However, as the command did not trust Imperial Intelligence, Orlock was often used as a spy against the Alliance to Restore the Republic.
Orlock was considered to be a skilled intelligence agent, and a component slicer. He was also a deadly shot, training with blasters a lot, knowing that he could get into fights on some missions. He was also fluent in Galactic Basic Standard, and, unlike most of his species, Orlock spoke it with only a minor accent. He was usually thought highly of by his superiors due to his skills. He had a quiet personality, after years of spying. Orlock did not have much direct loyalty to his employers and superiors, until starting to work for the Empire.
After the collapse of the Empire following the Battle of Endor in 4 ABY, the Imperial Security Bureau was dissolved. Though he could have easily found a job with a warlord, Orlock temporarily left the Empire and went into exile on the planet of Agrimar for two years, reemerging in 6 ABY. He then worked for several private interests before joining the Imperial Remnant in 12 ABY.
Biography[]
Early life[]
Orlock was born into a clan ruled by a Queen in the underground caverns of the planet of Kubindi in the Outer Rim Territories in 38 BBY. The Kubaz species lived mostly underground and answered to queens of clans. However, Orlock showed more intelligence and curiosity than the average member of his species. At around 30 BBY, Orlock left the caverns of his clan, going above ground. He lived at a small spaceport, learning espionage from several spies while employed by a clan official to spy on criminals. At the same time, he learned a bit of slicing.
In 22 BBY, the planet of Kubindi was invaded by the Confederacy of Independent Systems. A Separatist officer employed Orlock to infiltrate a clan cavern, being a Kubaz, and open the large metal gates preventing his forces from entering. Orlock did so, successfully, which allowed the Separatist Droid Army to charge in and defeat the clan. The officer offered Orlock a chance to see the galaxy by joining the growing Separatist Intelligence.
Clone Wars[]
First operations[]
Yes, sir.
—Orlock to an officer
As the Clone Wars raged on, Orlock came into the service of Separatist Intelligence. He was first stationed on Deko Neimoidia to spy on an official who was suspected of smuggling contraband using Confederate resources. After six months with no leads, Orlock was sent to Masama, an Outer Rim world on which he spied on the Republic troops that were using it as a staging ground. He reported a large detailed file of information, being promoted to corporal for his services. In early 21 BBY, Orlock was taken off world to nearby Kalimar, which had a largely pro-Republic government. He spent six days there before having to kill the mayor of a large city (who began suspecting him) and being withdrawn.
As the conflict continued, Orlock was sent to various other planets, though closer to the Core Worlds. Separatist Intelligence was failing to keep up with spying on all new requests that CIS officers had put forward, and Orlock was frequently called in as he was known to be a good operative. Around that time, he was promoted to sergeant. Orlock himself did not grow tired of the job, and was paid a substantial amount of credits. He personally believed that the Republic would win, a feeling which intensified as the CIS advance stalled. By that point, he held the rank of lieutenant.
Defection[]
I will give you whatever information you need.
—Orlock to Republic interrogators
In 20 BBY, Orlock began really losing hope in the Confederacy. He then heard that his home planet was liberated from it's Separatist occupiers. Finally, he was sent on a mission to Sochi, a vacation world for high ranking Republic officials. As he was poisoning the food supply, Orlock was caught by Republic Intelligence and arrested. On Coruscant, he was released by order of the director of Republic Intelligence, and was to be used by them. Having no other choice, he accepted a counterintelligence job in the Internal Security Bureau.
Republic Service[]
I cannot wait to become an officer.
—Orlock after defecting
The ISB was the domestic security and counterintelligence agency. Orlock served as a lieutenant, the rank he previously held in the Separatist Intelligence. He felt better in the Republic than the CIS. Though he never met Count Dooku or Asajj Ventress, Orlock had grown afraid of what they would have done to him if he failed a mission for them, which he was sure he have to do as Orlock was one of the best spies in the Confederacy. As a counterintelligence agent, Orlock often wandered the streets of the galactic capitol and looked for Separatist spies. He caught at least five.
In 19 BBY, Orlock was promoted to captain. Much to his dismay, he was transferred to the Internal Affairs division. He was against it as he enjoyed intelligence, not policing. His most notable act during that time was the execution of a corrupt Republic admiral. He personally fired the shot that killed him after a skirmish with the admiral's loyalists. For that, he was awarded the Chancellor's Will, a prestigious medal.
Months before Order 66, Orlock was reassigned by Supreme Chancellor Palpatine to a special division of the ISB assigned to monitor Jedi. Like his comrades, Orlock did not question why they were spying on the keepers of the peace. Others were loyal to Palpatine, but Orlock did it without question because he knew betrayal and was ready to spy on anyone deemed to be a traitor. Finally, the order came, and he led teams in the underlevels in search of escaping Jedi. Orlock himself survived, killing a lone Jedi Master, but many other ISB agents were killed.
Imperial Period[]
New work[]
As the Republic was reformed into the Galactic Empire, Orlock continued to serve, as a member of the newly formed Imperial Security Bureau. He was still a captain as he carried out his duties in the first months of the Empire on Coruscant, but in 18 BBY, after a year of looking for dissidence on the Imperial Center (as Coruscant was renamed), he was promoted to major. Orlock was then sent to Verona, a planet in the Mid Rim and the site of a possible resistance.
After weeks of delicate work, Orlock uncovered a resistance organization, sheltering seventeen Jedi. He informed the Imperial garrison and joined in the ensuing firefight. Most resistance members were killed, with ten Jedi. Afterwards, Orlock was awarded the Imperial Medal of Victory.
