Nevya Khiyali was a female Anzat member of the Brotherhood of Shadows. After enduring unremarkably under the rule of Darth Vandak and his second, Azeroth Seji, she became a devoted partisan of Darth Alecto, and the only person Alecto trusted completely.
Biography[]
Promotion[]
By 1,387 BBY, Nevya had descended through the fourth level of the Abattoir and lived for at least two centuries; her skill earned her a seat at the Brotherhood's main table in the Temple of Shadows. In that year, Darth Alecto arrived on Anzat seeking the Brotherhood's allegiance. Nevya was among the Anzati who vowed to serve Alecto if she successfully passed through all seven levels of the Abattoir; Alecto did so weeks later, and Nevya acknowledged her mastery over the order. Nevya accompanied Alecto to the Unquenchable Fire to bear witness to Alecto's achievement to Darth Saleej.
Following Alecto's ascension, she made Nevya her second-in-command, bypassing Qritzel Sheol, who preferred to remain in an advisory role. Nevya accompanied Alecto and Targere to a meeting with Eviar Seldec, where the two sides agreed to collaborate in the assassination Supreme Chancellor Phnyong. Nevya led an Anzat team to Anaxes in support of the mission and liaised with Second Besh. She also led the team to infiltrate Anaxes Citadel by air and killed the Jedi Knight Dijir F'rat in single combat. Alecto and Zarrke entered the Citadel and helped Alecto exfiltrate as many of the high-ranking guests at the military ball succumbed to Alecto's poison.
Rescue Mission[]
After the assassinations, Alecto deposited her Anzati at Brentaal, instructing them to return to Anzat and await further orders. They returned, but when Alecto did not communicate within a month, many of the brethren grew restive. Nevya, controlling the group as second-in-command, attempted to keep them in line, but found it increasingly challenging; some believed Alecto, having earned the glory of her fellow Sith, thought her Anzati had ceased to be useful and deserted them. When Zeff Rogu contacted Nevya and revealed that the Sith did not know where Alecto was either, Nevya launched a mission to find Alecto with some loyal brethren, backed by the tacit support of Ikkyn.
Nevya and her comrades slaughtered their way through the Brentaal underworld, but found no clues to Alecto's presence. Dividing up on the shadowports of the Hydian Way, they searched for their master; it was Zarrke who found her on Bogg 14. The Anzati reunited and following the homing beacon Zarrke had placed on the Scourge, which led them to Vjun. They infiltrated the Palace of Happiness, killed Lygrot, and cornered Kai Latra, whom Alecto accused of betraying her. When Alecto unleashed her Anzati on Kai Latra's remaining Acolytes, Nevya remained close to her master, relieved simply to have been proven right and recovered Alecto before facing an all-out rebellion among the Anzati.
Right Hand[]
Granted a throneworld and a group of Sith disciples, Darth Alecto established a base on Lisal. Nevya split her time between Anzat and Lisal; when she was with her master, Alecto's Sith treated her with deference. Nevya often requested Alecto's permission to exercise her centennial privilege and re-try the Abattoir for a higher rank; Alecto finally conceded at the end of 1,386 BBY, and Nevya fought through the sixth level, emerging exhausted and half-dead, but now the seniormost Anzat in the Brotherhood. Around the same time, she began a sexual relationship with Zeff Rogu, her master's only Sith Acolyte.
In 1,385 BBY, the Council of Five directed Alecto to assassinate Satir and Galera Solo at the Commenori Economic Roundtable. Alecto planned to lead the mission herself, but upon receiving intelligence that Naathree Basrasht planned to attack Lisal in her absence, she opted to stay and reluctantly agreed to send Nevya in her place. Nevya, Zeff, Shrizzzqadl, and Dolre Thyle successfully infiltrated the meeting, but Jedi Council Master Nawsa Arodion was among the Solos' bodyguards, and she perceived the darkness around Zeff and Shrizzzqadl.
Sensing the game was up, Nevya launched a direct attack and wound up in a duel with Arodion. Though she tried Arodion badly, Nevya was ultimately impaled through the stomach. Even knowing she was dying, though, she distracted Arodion with an attempt to feed on her soup, then struck Galera Solo with a poisoned dagger. Arodion struck her down seconds later.
Legacy[]
Nevya succeeded in death—Arodion was unable to heal Galera of the poison, and Galera died two days later. Arodion was crushed by the loss, but struggled not to give in to grief.
Alecto, by contrast, was outraged at the loss of her second in command—and, privately, heartsick at losing the only person she fully trusted and the closest thing she had to a friend. She was forced to promote Katrijan Naveskatsi to replace Nevya, but she dedicated the entire Brotherhood to a vendetta against Arodion. Though he made the decision to flee Commenor when he saw that he and Shrizzzqadl could not help Nevya, Zeff was similarly infuriated. Alecto finally avenged Nevya more than a year after her death by killing Arodion on Denon, though she found little peace even in triumph.
Skills and Abilities[]
Nevya preferred to fight with a cortosis-weave short sword, and was skillful enough to kill Jedi Knight Dijir F'rat in single combat. She held her own against a Jedi Council Master, but was ultimately slain in the engagement. She was also an accomplished martial artist, skilled in a variety of disciplines. She had sufficient talent and commitment to pass through six levels of the Abattoir. She had some leadership abilities, though she struggled to hold the Brotherhood together during Alecto's absence in 1,386 BBY.
Appearance and Personality[]
Despite her relatively short stature (1.68 meters (5'6")), Nevya was fit and athletic. She had black hair and eyes, and gray-white skin somewhat paler than many Anzati. After her ascension to the second-in-command position in the Brotherhood, she often wore predominantly red except when on missions.
Nevya, like all Anzati, viewed killing clinically without attaching any moral dimension to the matter. However, she was loyal to the Brotherhood and to its leaders; she had particular devotion to Darth Alecto, not merely because she owed her position to Alecto, but also because she believed Alecto actually valued the brethren more than Vandak or Azeroth. Alecto, in turn, trusted Nevya more than any of her other subordinates, including her Sith Acolyte Zeff Rogu.
