Adatin Perfor

Adatin Perfor was a pilot for the Rebel Alliance and the New Republic as a member of Arrow Squadron. A native of Zeltros, he decided to join Arrow Squadron following the Twelfth Battle of Zeltros in 4 ABY.

Biography[]

Early life[]

Adatin was born in 15 BBY in a suburb of Zeltros, the capital city of the planet Zeltros. At the time of Adatin's birth, the identity of his father was still in question. This was hardly an oddity on Zeltros, however, as Zeltron culture was highly influenced by sexuality and most children were born out of wedlock. In fact, Zeltrons viewed monogamy in general as a quaint but impractical practice.

The standard procedure of a paternity test was followed, though the man identified as the father disagreed with the results. Soon after, the family court system decided that shared custody would be best for Adatin, as both of his parents were deemed fit for parenting responsibilities and had no existing records of violence or abuse.

With the shared custody, not only was he able to learn baking straight from his mother, but his father was also willing to teach him his trade in mechanical repairs, especially on heating coils. From an early age, Adatin helped his mother by transporting goods from her famous bakery in the suburbs of Zeltros to the distribution center near the capital's spaceport. Using an Incom T-47 airspeeder, he pulled repulsorlift cargo modules with the tow cable. He also hauled supplies from time to time for his dad, though most of the time spent with his dad was underneath or inside machinery, making repairs.

Battle of Zeltros[]

In 4 ABY, Zeltros was the site of a four-way battle between members of the Alliance of Free Planets, who came peacefully to Zeltros, and invading Nagai, Tof and Hiromi forces. Arrow Squadron, located in the Commenor system at the time, received a distress call and came to the aid of the Heroes of Yavin.

As the battle commenced, Adatin just happened to be delivering a cargo module of bagels at the distribution center. Due to the center's location, Perfor had to fly through the heart of the battle to return home. In doing so, he witnessed Sam Usaran, a member of Arrow Squadron, fighting like a madman against the Nagai and later the Tof. After witnessing Usaran's pure, fiery passion firsthand, Adatin was convinced that he had to join Arrow Squadron.

The news came as no surprise to his parents; at nineteen years old Adatin was beginning to grow restless with his life and had mentioned several times his desire to go out and see the world. Though they told him they would miss him, Perfor's parents wished him well and both gave him credits to help him buy his own ship. Adatin then met the Arrows and left with them aboard Miss Fortuna.

Arrow Squadron[]

Once Miss Fortuna landed at its home base on Ord Mantell, Perfor began looking for a ship. At the moment, the Alliance didn’t have any new fighters to spare, but provided a 50,000 credit voucher towards the purchase of a used starfighter. After a few days of searching, he found a Clone Wars-era Nimbus-class V-wing starfighter on the outskirts of Worlport.

Adatin had never flown a vehicle out of atmosphere, as his primary piloting experience came from flying the T-47 back home. Nevertheless, he was already a proficient pilot and was assigned to Tango Flight, the fighter-bomber group of the squadron, as Arrow Seven. Perfor was wing-paired with Salkazza, a veteran Wookiee flier who had been a pilot since before the Clone Wars. Flying with the leader of his flight, Adatin gained valuable knowledge via a miniature translator droid that accompanied Salkazza practically everywhere.

Perfor's other role in the squadron was to be a general mechanic. Since Arrow Squadron was a small, covert operation, they usually only had one dedicated mechanic and at times had none. Adatin and the others with mechanical knowledge were leaned upon to fill that gap during times of heavy maintenance and thus played a critical role in the squadron.

Dac[]

Adatin’s most famous battle came in 10 ABY at the First Battle of Mon Calamari. Due to his extensive experience flying airspeeders, now-lieutenant Perfor was chosen to lead a squadron of V-wing airspeeders during the battle. His valor in combat led to his promotion to the rank of captain.

However, the squadron suffered heavy losses during the intense battle: all four fighters of Foxtrot Flight. Commander Oolron decided to reorganize the squadron, with Adatin being promoted to the leader of Tango Flight. This felt strange to Adatin, as Salkazza was still active with the squadron, but made sense due to Salkazza technically now being outranked by Adatin. For many years, Salkazza had continually refused promotions, as he felt even his small difference in pay should be saved to help the efforts of the Rebellion. He had no qualms with other members of the squadron accepting promotions, though, as he stated it was his own personal decision.

Though he was now the leader of the bomber flight, Adatin still greatly valued Salkazza's wisdom and was devastated when the Wookiee was killed at the Second Battle of Mon Calamari in 11 ABY. Enraged and saddened, Adatin shot down the two TIE fighters that had ganged up on Salkazza, despite Adatin's speed disadvantage. At the Wookiee's memorial service, Adatin gave the eulogy for the squadmate who had become like an older brother to him.

Dissolution of Arrow Squadron[]

Arrow Squadron continued to serve the New Republic until open conflict between the New Republic and the Imperial Remnant were brought to an end by the signing of the Pellaeon–Gavrisom Treaty in 19 ABY. After the treaty was signed, Captain Thale decided to retire from the squadron and join Luke Skywalker's Jedi Praxeum to train and further her knowledge of the Force. Thale's resignation precipitated the dissolution of the squadron in 20 ABY. Due to his experience and rank, Perfor went on to lead a New Republic V-wing airspeeder squadron during the Yuuzhan Vong War and beyond, though he still kept his own Nimbus-class V-wing starfighter as his personal vehicle.

Personality and traits[]

Zeltrons were often stereotyped as lazy thrill-seekers, owing to their hedonistic pursuits. But though their first inclincation was always to love, when necessary, Zeltrons could also prove to be formidable warriors; Adatin once half-joked that a good punch was the solution to all problems.

Adatin enjoyed puns and sometimes referred to himself as “Master Fists-O-Duct Tape” and his hands as his “tool Kit O-Fist.” Though he avoided death sticks, his self-schema was that of a stoner, though some members of the squadron wondered if it was just another joke with himself.

Like fellow squad-mate Sam Usaran, Perfor was known to be extremely competitive when it came to hologames, and thought of himself as the best gamer in the squadron, though he acknowledged that Usaran was a tough opponent.

In terms of traits, Perfor was quite skilled at logic and mechanics. Though the work was sometimes strenuous, he was proud of his ability to repair and enhance fighters. He was a valuable member to the team, not only with his mechanical and logical skills, but he also boosted morale with the baked goods his Mum taught him how to make as a youngling.

When Adatin joined Arrow Squadron, the Alliance didn’t have an extra new fighter to spare, but provided him a 50,000 credit voucher towards the purchase of a used starfighter. Though the voucher was nearly enough money to purchase a used Y-wing, Adatin wanted something that better fit his personality.

After a few days of searching, he found an old Nimbus-class V-wing starfighter on the outskirts of Worlport. The eccentric old man who had owned the craft had kept the vintage fighter-bomber in good condition, but had passed away, leaving the ship to be sold in his estate sale. Adatin attended the sale, and bought the starfighter for 45,000 credits. The auctioneer balked about the voucher being issued by “Rebels,” so Adatin just told the man he could have the entire 50,000 credits if he’d shut his mouth about the whole thing. The auctioneer gladly complied, as credits were the true government of Ord Mantell.

The former owner had followed Imperial law requiring former military craft have their weaponry downgraded, but the connections and power supplies were still in place for Adatin to be able to install up-to-date military-grade weapons systems. Since he hadn’t had to use his own money on the purchase of his ship, he was left plenty of credits for upgrades on his new ship, which he nicknamed the Incarcerator. The resulting ship had the following armament:

• Shock cannons (1 pair)
• Proton bombs (4)
• Homing cluster missiles (4)

In addition to the weapons upgrades, Adatin also continually tweaked the engines to get better and better performance out of them. Though the fighter-bomber was originally not much faster than a Y-wing, it eventually approached X-wing speeds. An internal hyperdrive was also added, as the Nimbus-class V-wing was originally designed for use with a hyperdrive docking ring.

Adatin was able to fly V-wing airspeeders, the “other” V-wing, from time to time after the Battle of Mon Calamari in 10 ABY, but it was not until he was promoted to commander that he got his own airspeeder, which he used to lead a squadron of such craft in the Yuuzhan Vong War. He customized his new fighter with hardpoints for bombs and shock cannons instead of the second set of laser cannons.

Lightfoil[]

Perfor enjoyed fencing and fighting with his lightfoil, having picked it up early in life from the saber rake who just happened to be the most intoxicated when his "duel of honor" broke into the alley behind Perfor's father's shop.
