Mutation City is the second episode of season two of SWAT Kats: The Radical Squadron, and the fifteenth episode overall.
Synopsis[]
Jake and Chance are towing a car through Megakat City's streets when Chance stops as Pop Perkins' newsstand in his old neighborhood to pick up a comic book. Chance and Pop spend a bit of time catching up before the two mechanics head off. They soon received a call from Callie informing them that the Pastmaster has returned and is attacking Megakat Bridge. Ditching their cargo and transforming their tow truck, the two speed towards their base while Felina Feral bravely goes after the Pastmaster herself.
Fortunately, the SWAT Kats arrive just in time to save Lieutenant Feral from a fall; unfortunately, the Pastmaster is specifically targeting the SWAT Kats for revenge. His scheme soon sends him and the SWAT Kats flying through one of his time portals. When they emerge, they find themselves in a drastically altered future Megakat City now known as Metallikat City, for the obvious reason that it's now ruled over by the Metallikats. However, Despite the Pastmaster having aided them in this takeover, the Metallikats turn on the wizard and sic several of their attack robots on him.
In the ensuing skirmish, the Pastmaster's watch is stolen, and the SWAT Kats find themselves fleeing through a city filled with hostile robots. They manage to escape with some damage to the Turbokat, and decide to see if their Salvage yard still exists in this future. They soon discover that the site has been turned into one of the Metallikats' work camps, the inmates of whom are stunned to see the SWAT Kats alive. After a close encounter with a giant robot that doubles as a suspension bridge, the pair crash into a swamp outside the city.
While checking over the Turbokat for damage, the pair find themselves swarmed by a group of trucks. These, however, turn out to be friends: specifically, future versions of Commander and Lieutenant Feral, Mayor Manx and Callie, and Professor Hackle. As the groups speak, the SWAT Kats learn that the Pastmaster repaired the Metallikats and then helped them seize control of the robots Hackle built to do various jobs in Megakat City. They soon enslaved the populace of Megakat City to build an army of Metallitack Units, which soon overwhelmed the Enforcers but T-Bone and Razor's counterparts, who perished in the fighting.
The Kats are soon attacked by a Metallikat drone and the bridge robot and forced to abandon the downed Turbokat in order to attempt to flee. Unfortunately, Callie and Manx are taken captive, much to the regret of Hackle. When questioned, the professor notes that they might be able to stop the Metallikats by breaking into their headquarters and rewiring the control systems. As the SWAT Kats and remaining resistance members set to work repairing the Turbokat, Molly broadcasts their capture of Callie and Manx across the city.
Unbeknownst to the Metallikats, the Pastmaster observes this broadcast and is furious to see his watch in the possession of the Metallikats. The SWAT Kats also see the broadcast and set off on the Cyclotron, only to find that the cities of Metallikat City are a veritable gauntlet of mechanized hazards. After surviving, the pair manage to rescue Pop Perkins from a robot, only to run into the Pastmaster. The furious wizard offers the SWAT Kats a deal: if they help him recover his watch, he'll get them back to their own time.
The Pastmaster is seemingly brought in to Mac and Molly by a pair of their robots, only for the Turbokat to arrive on the attack. Even more alarming to the Metallikats, the two robots who brought in the Pastmaster are in fact the SWAT Kats, and Professor Hackle is entering the building in the chaos. Mac and Molly attempt to flee in a helicopter, but the SWAT Kats quickly board the Turbokat to pursue them. They shoot down the chopper, which is caught by a giant robot newly reprogrammed to assist the denizens of Metallikat City.
Mac and Molly are soon in custody, but the Pastmaster seizes his watch and attempts to leave the SWAT Kats stranded in Metallikat City's future. However, the pair manage to follow him back to their own time through the portal, and then send him flying back into it.
