Moveset
Attributes
- Fox is among the fastest characters in the game, in terms of both movement and attack speed, due to being one of the lightest fighters in the game. His quick attacks also provide him with strong combo potential. However, like with most lightweights, Fox might have a hard time trying to stay on the stage.
- Fox has gained a new Final Smash, named Team Star Fox. It is a trapping attack where he will call upon his team to fire at the opponent with the lasers of their Arwings.
- Fox can Wall jump.

Idle Poses
Taunts
- In the Up Taunt, Fox will exclaim "Let's go!".
- During the Down Taunt, Fox will cry out "Come at me!"
- The Down Taunt can also be used to activate the secret Star Fox Smash Taunt in Corneria, Venom, and Lylat Cruise.
Victory Screens
- For Fox's first victory screen, he will say "This is Fox. Returning to base."
- If he fought Falco, he will instead say "Better luck next time, Falco."
- In the second screen, Fox will say "Mission complete."
- Fox's third screen recreates an animation from the original Super Smash Bros. that he performs when he's selected in the Character Select Screen.
Aesthetic
- Fox's design is an amalgam of his previous looks from Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U, as well as his new appearance in Star Fox Zero. A few original elements are also added, such as his headset being full gray and the texture of his boots being smoother.
- Opponents and items hit by the Blaster shots will have a small puff of black smoke come out of them with each hit, as if they are being burned.
- Fox's headset scouter has visible motion graphics. This can be easily seen at the end of his victory screens.
Classic Mode: Spaceborne Smash
All fighters in Fox's route either come from other planets or are known to travel through space. The song "Main Theme - Star Fox" will play during the end credits.
Clearing Fox's route allows him to unlock any of the following in order: Captain Falcon, Zero Suit Samus, Peach, Falco, Daisy, Bowser Jr., Wolf, and Mewtwo.

1 | Samus | Brinstar | "Title Theme - Metroid" | |

Role in World of Light
Fox was among the fighters that were summoned to fight the army of Master Hands.
In the first cutscene's beginning, Fox orders the cast to "[not let] a single one get away!", aiming his Blaster at the Master Hands before Galeem unleashed his beams of light across the universe. He was vaporized offscreen, placing him under Galeem's imprisonment along with the other fighters, excluding Kirby. A Puppet fighter of Fox is later seen among the rest of the cloned characters.
Fox is one of the few mandatory unlocks in The Light Realm, as freeing him will allow access to the Red Switch that opens the path to the Temple sub-area, as well as opening a path blocked by rocks. He can be found in a heart-shaped lake area.
Fox later appears with the others witnessing the final battle against Galeem and Dharkon. He also appears in the bad ending where Galeem wins, witnessing the world become engulfed in light.

Trivia
- World of Light marks Fox's first and only time being an Unlockable character.
- Fox is one of nine characters to have unique dialogue in a victory screen when a specific character is present ("Better luck next time, Falco."); the other eight are Falco, Wolf, Palutena, Dark Pit, Robin, Lucina, Simon, and Sephiroth. Among them, Fox is the only Starter.
- Strangely, this line was not found in the Sound Test until the version 8.0.0 update.
- Fox is the only Starter Character that can perform a Smash Taunt.
- Despite getting a new design, the afterimages of Fox Illusion reuse his models from Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U. He shares this oddity with Falco Phantasm.
- Fox's entry in the Super Smash Blog quotes his old Down Taunt ("Come on!"), which is odd as Fox now says "Come at me!" in Ultimate.
