Dirk MacGregor, Jr. was a student at Truman High and a bully who used to pick on Sam and Barry Cook. After death, he became a vengeful spirit that caused bullied people to act out against their own bullies.

History[]

Dirk was a student at Truman High. He became a bully when his mother died from cancer. Before that happened, his father described him as a good kid who always took care of his mother as she was dying. Her death caused him to hold a lot of rage that he took out on others and wouldn't talk to his father about it. He used to pick on a boy named Barry Cook. When the brothers Sam and Dean Winchester started at the school, Dirk started to pick on Sam, who was in his class, because he defended Barry. One day, he and Sam were in a fight, where Sam beat Dirk. Sam called him Dirk the Jerk, chastising him for his acts. As Sam was leaving, the whole school started to call Dirk, "Dirk the Jerk". After Sam left school, Dirk became the one that was picked on. He started drinking and using drugs and eventually died from an overdose when he was 18. He was subsequently cremated, though his father kept a lock of his hair.

Dirk resurfaced as a spirit, binding himself to the earthly plane through his lock of hair, and possessed students that were bullied, making them kill or hurt the bullies, given that his father had earned a bus driver's license and kept the lock of hair on his bus. When Sam and Dean came to the school to investigate, Dirk attacked Sam, but Sam was faster than Dirk and drove him out of the student he had possessed with salt. Later, Sam and Dean believed Dirk is haunting a school bus and later learned that Dirk's father had kept a lock of his hair. Sam and Dean stopped the bus that Dirk was driving when he possessed the driver. Dean and Sam tied him with rope soaked in salt water. Dirk broke free and took over someone else to attack Sam, which gave Dean enough time to burn Dirk's lock of hair and put him to rest.

Personality[]

According to his father, Dirk was once a very kind and caring boy who took care of his sick and dying mother who he loved deeply. Due to his father having three jobs, it fell to Dirk to be his mother's caregiver and he was very good and patient at it despite only being thirteen. However, Dirk was forced to watch his mother waste away slowly and afterwards, could never talk about her, not even to his father.

Watching his mother die this way changed Dirk's personality greatly. He developed a lot of anger as even his father noted and a violent temper. Dirk went from being kind and caring to a bully that picked on smaller kids in school, particularly Barry Cook and Sam Winchester. His anger caused him to lash out so much that he was itching for a fight until Sam beat him. Afterwards, when kids started picking on him in turn, Dirk turned to drinking and drugs until he overdosed.

As a ghost, Dirk possessed people who were bullied and lashed out at the bullies, helping the bullied get revenge in violent and often murderous ways. Even twenty years later, he still held a grudge against Sam and made a point of trying to kill him, refusing to accept his apologies for what transpired between them. Dirk held a belief that jocks and popular kids were evil for their actions.

Powers and Abilities[]

Dirk was an above average ghost.

• Invisibility - As a ghost, Dirk was naturally invisible. Even when his spirit was visible, his true form was invisible to the naked eye, just appearing as a dark mass.
• Ghost Possession - Able to possess others, a rare power amongst ghosts.
• Ectoplasm Secretion - Able to produce ectoplasm, it would leak out of his victims' eyes, ears, mouth, or nostrils.
• Immunity - Dirk possessed a high level of immunity to salt that was unusual for a ghost. When Sam exorcised him from a girl by pouring salt down her throat, Dirk took some time to be ejected. Even being wrapped in a salt water-soaked rope barely affected him much. It took two rock salt rounds to the bus driver he was possessing to eject him while another two rounds to a football player he was possessing did nothing to him unlike other ghosts who were ejected with just one shot.
• Super Strength - He was strong enough to break through a salt water-soaked rope.

Weaknesses[]

• Salt - Dirk can be harmed when being force fed salt in the mouth of the person he is possessing, which caused him great pain and forced him out of his host, freeing them. Shooting the possessed person with rock salt also hurt him.
  • Salt Water - Salt water can weaken Dirk when he is possessing someone.
    • Salt Water Soaked Ropes - Sam and Dean Winchester used a rope soaked in salt water to restrain, depower and prevent Dirk from leaving a physical body as seen he was possessing a bus driver. Even though the rope was supposed to restrain Dirk for good, he was eventually able to free himself when enraged.
• Burning his Mortal Remains - Dirk was cremated upon death but was able to attach himself to a bit of his hair his dad kept in a bible. He was eventually put to rest when Dean burned the hair.
