The demon bomb was a powerful demon killing spell found on the Demon Tablet.

Overview[]

It was first discovered by the prophet Kevin Tran, while studying the tablet. In order to escape Crowley's custody, Kevin tricked Crowley into gathering the ingredients, then used the spell to obliterate his two guards and escape.

Months later, Linda Tran sought out the spell ingredients as a way to strike back against Crowley and hired the witch Delta Mendota to gather the ingredients for her. Delta only brought enough ingredients for one bomb and betrayed the Tran's to Crowley. Following her escape, Linda provided the Winchesters with the ingredients and Kevin's notes on it. In the rescue that followed, Sam Winchester used the demon bomb to kill four demons at once.

After learning of Samandriel's captivity, Dean Winchester approached Kevin for the list of ingredients for the demon bomb. Though Kevin scoffed at the idea of using the bomb, Castiel was able to procure the ingredients. During the rescue mission, the Winchesters used the demon bombs to vaporize two demon guards each.

In 2018, after escaping from the Impala's trunk, Arthur Ketch retrieved a demon bomb from the weapons' cache and attempted to kill Lucifer and Anael with it. Lucifer was able to teleport away a moment before the bomb went off with Anael however. Arthur explained that he thought that in Lucifer's weakened state, the demon bomb would "put a dent in him."

Procedure[]

The spell required several ingredients, which, according to Kevin, were not only rare but were also numerous. Some of the ingredients that were revealed were West Bank witch hazel, skull of Egyptian calf, the tail of "some random-ass newt that may or may not be extinct". Kevin noted that he was only able to perform the spell because Crowley's demons were working all over the world for him. Once complete, the ingredients had to be mixed in a bowl and a lit matchstick had to be thrown in. The effect of the spell was instantaneous and did not require any incantation.

Trivia[]

  • The bomb is variation of the original spell. This variation employed the same ingredients but was deployed by smashing all the ingredients into the ground.
  • Because of the portability and faster deployment of the variation, the bomb method was used more often than the first variation shown.
  • Additionally, the spell was also more frequently described as "demon bombs" or "demon TNT".
  • Unlike a few other spells, this spell affected every demon inside a certain radius.
  • The demon bomb was absent from the show from season 8's Torn and Frayed to season 13's Devil's Bargain, a difference of over five years. Apparently the Winchesters had demon bombs in the Impala's trunk that whole time, but never used them for an unknown reason.
  • It is unknown how Arthur Ketch knew what the bombs were for as he had never been told of their use before using them and the information was only known to those who Kevin told.
