I wanna give you two something. My dad... he, uh... Kept a hunter's journal, looked just like this. I lived my whole life by that damn thing. Well, this is my hunter's journal. So, if you're going to stay in this game... This will help guide you through it.

Dean's Journal is a hunter's journal created by Dean Winchester.

History[]

Supernatural[]

Season 1[]

In Something Wicked, while doing research on a Shtriga, Dean pulls out his journal and looks at it while telling Sam that a Shtriga can he killed by consecrated wrought iron while it feeds, suggesting that Dean recorded information about the monster in his journal unlike John's journal which has nothing on it.

Season 2[]

In The Usual Suspects, Dean's journal is open on the table in front of him as he shows Sam a potential case.

Season 8[]

In Goodbye Stranger, Sam suggests that Dean record his inventory of the artifacts in the Men of Letters bunker in his journal for the archives.

Season 13[]

In The Big Empty, Mia Vallens asks the Winchesters if they ever do journals. Sam mentions John Winchester's Journal while the much more hostile Dean sarcastically tells her that he's had one "ever since I was a little girl."

The Winchesters[]

In Pilot, Dean writes in his journal about the threat from the Akrida while leaning against the Impala. Once he's done, Dean tosses it into the passenger's seat before driving off.

In Hey, That's No Way To Say Goodbye, Joan Hopkins gives John, Mary and Samuel the journal, telling them that it's all that's left of Dean after Joan tossed him and the Impala into a portal that will tear them apart. Mary, Lata and Millie feed Dean's journal to the Ostium in an attempt to pull Dean back into their universe. Although Dean doesn't appear, his journal's connection to the Impala brings the car back instead and Mary is able to use the Impala to kill Joan as the car is not of their Earth.

Jack Kline subsequently returns Dean's journal to him along with the Colt, allowing Dean to finish what he started. Dean tells the alternate version of his parents that he had lived his whole life by his father's hunting journal before Dean gives them his own journal to guide John and Mary in hunting as John's journal had done for him.

Later, Mary tells John that she's read some of the journal and that Dean was very specific about one issue: "driver picks the music, shotgun shuts their cakehole."
