Comfirmed style is Ansatusken[]

I don't see how this confirms anything, this isn't an official faq. Just another fan writing up some information that got made up a long time ago and somehow got passed on.--76.85.194.58 12:22, 22 February 2009 (UTC)
http://www.streetfighter.com/flash/#/sf4/characters/ check out Gouken's profile; it says that he taught Ansatsuken to his two students. Pretty official if you ask me. Of course, if you DID ask me, I'd say that it stopped being Ansatsuken the minute Gouken removed Satsui no Hadou.--Evilsbane 00:41, October 28, 2009 (UTC)
Appearance[]
What is Ryu wearing on his hands? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Account Left Blank (talk • contribs)

Small changes[]
I added the surname Hoshi to the table, because there are more sources than the movie that state his surname as Hoshi. ~Pierrot
Like what? --Evilsbane 19:41, December 8, 2009 (UTC)
Like Street Fighter II Collection I and II. It gives in-depth charts for characters; all of which name Ryu as Ryu Hoshi. ~Pierrot
Cool! Could you link me to some scans or something? They'd make excellent references (the wiki could always use more references!)-Evilsbane 01:10, December 11, 2009 (UTC)
I could try to, but I'd need to get a playstation and a camera. It'll take a while to manifest. ~Pierrot
Defeated Portraits[]
I just noticed the defeated picture of Yang from Street Fighter 3 and that made me wonder if we should put the defeated potraits of characters in the Gallery sections.

Videos[]
When I scroll down this page to the bottom, I usually lag due to the large amount of YouTube video embeds. Ryu has a ton of stage themes as well as his super combos. Can we either reduce the amount of music themes, or move the super combo videos to their respective pages? --HavocReaper'48 02:42, April 30, 2010 (UTC)
- We could just provide a link to their pages to reduce the lag, but that's my idea. --HavocReaper'48 19:50, May 10, 2010 (UTC)
- Yeah I was thinking that myself. For the Ultras, it should be sufficient to make articles for them and put the videos there. For the stage themes... I suppose we could make a page for them, but what format would it take?--Evilsbane 20:30, May 10, 2010 (UTC)
Super Street Fighter IV[]
I mentioned this in the talk section of the Sakura article, so I'll repeat it here: Are you sure about the mention that Ryu is looking for Sakura in Super Street Fighter IV? As in having official sources stating it? I just finished the game with Sakura yesterday and it looked to me like Ryu was just passing by, minding his bussines and running into her only by chance.148.202.85.194 15:40, May 10, 2010 (UTC))
"Fake-out Hadoken"[]
While playing SFA2, I figured out Dan's Roll Taunt, which explained the move in the game manual. Then I tried the same output as the Roll Taunt with Ryu, and I have Ryu pretend to launch a Hadoken- just the hand movement. Should this be mentioned anywhere? --HavocReaper'48 19:50, May 10, 2010 (UTC)
- It could go in the page for Hadoken. I do believe I remember hearing abou that, too; it can be done in SSF2THDR if memory serves.--Evilsbane 20:32, May 10, 2010 (UTC)
- A version of Hadoken, I would say.--Evilsbane 21:52, May 10, 2010 (UTC)
Why "Ironically"?[]
"Ironically enough, Ryu's Street Fighter IV and Marvel vs. Capcom 3 English voice actor, Kyle Hebert, is known best for also being the main English voice for the adult version of Goku's son Gohan in Dragon Ball."
ironically (comparative more ironically, superlative most ironically)
irony (usually uncountable; plural ironies)
- A statement that, when taken in context, may actually mean something different from, or the opposite of what is written literally; the use of words expressing something other than their literal intention, notably as a form of humor.
- Dramatic irony: a theatrical effect in which the meaning of a situation, or some incongruity in the plot, is understood by the audience, but not by the characters in the play.
- Ignorance feigned for the purpose of confounding or provoking an antagonist; Socratic irony.
- (informal, proscribed)[1] The quality or state of an event being both coincidental and contradictory in a humorous or poignant and extremely improbable way.
I see that Ryu's and Gohan voice actor being the same dude is in fact coincidental, but i can't se the contradiction. So, why is "ironically"?
It's conincidental, it's funny, etc, but it's not ironical. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 187.198.156.199 (talk • contribs)
- Ah, good catch. I'll get on that. PacChampion3D-17 18:49, September 18, 2011 (UTC)
- I don't find it ironicial it's not like The Dragon Ball series and The Street Fighter series are rivals.

Age[]
How old is Ryu?
94.254.85.143 08:10, September 5, 2012 (UTC)
Who knows? My guess is that he is somewhere between 30 and 40 years old. 81.170.200.142 14:54, September 9, 2012 (UTC)
According to Ryu's profile at Capcom Database, his birthdate is year 1964 (I haven't seen the Capcom Database SF birthdates anywhere else so I have no idea how reliable it is), meaning he would be 49 and this is just assuming the current year in the SF timeline is the same year in real life.94.254.85.112 18:46, September 11, 2012 (UTC)
Those Street Fighter birthyears at CD are made up so Ryu's age still remains unknown. I guess myself that he is at least in his 30's.
195.67.78.50 09:37, September 27, 2012 (UTC)
Actually, the birth years of the Street Fighter cast up to Super Street Fighter II are not made up. I've seen bios for them up to that point within the games. I remember it was like an attract screen and you had to wait for them to show up.
Here's Ryu's bio from Street Fighter II: Special Championship Edition: http://media.giantbomb.com/uploads/0/8124/381600-street_fighter_2_special_champion_edition___ryu_bio.jpg
That's what the bios look like from what I remember. It's a good bet Ryu is in his 30s by Street Fighter III. The Street Fighter timeline doesn't go by the current real-world year at all.

Why doesn't anyone actually jot down information like this? That way, the information seen on character pages will feel more complete. ScorpionTail (talk) 23:39, August 28, 2015 (UTC)
real-life martial artist[]
Sorry if this is a silly question but is Ryu based on any particular real-life Japanese martial artist?

I think its possibly probale not thoughSpdr man (talk) 22:12, October 4, 2012 (UTC)
From what I know he is based on Yoshiji Soeno, who was a practitioner of kyokushinkai karate under Mas Oyama.46.59.49.166 16:19, October 9, 2012 (UTC)

Considering the Street Fighter Timeline, wouldn't Ryu's age be 24 in Street Fighter Alpha?[]
Considering Ryu's age and the street fighter timeline source (5 in the references), wouldn't Ryu's age in Street Fighter Alpha be 24 in SFA2? Just curious, and should it be added to the wiki? Plazzy99 (talk) 19:38, 30 June 2023 (UTC)
I read somewhere that Ryu's Voice Actor in Street Fighter II was Hitoshi Nishio who was part of the dev team. Can someone confirm this?[]
