Antler (アントラー?) is a minor character from the Slam Masters and Street Fighter series. He is a retired Japanese wrestler.
Biography
Concept
Antler is based off of the Japanese pro wrestler Antonio Inoki. He was first mentioned briefly with the name Antler Inoki (アントラー猪木?) as a reference to the wrestler on a Japanese exclusive sports newspaper mainly based on the setting from Saturday Night Slam Masters, but it also included content from Street Fighter and small mentions to Mega Man and Ghosts 'n Goblins.[2]
Years later, his background was fleshed out, gaining his own profile on the Shadaloo Combat Research Institute from Street Fighter V.[1]
It is said that Takayuki Nakayama liking the character was a factor for his official game appearance in Street Fighter 6. However, his name and design needed to be changed to avoid being too similar with the real life wrestler he was based on, with his name being shortened to Antler. At one point the staff feared that he was looking too similar with the wrestler Keiji Muto, so more changes were done until his final design was settled.[3]
History
During his prime, Antler was a famous wrestler that had fought other famous wrestlers, such as SASA Nishiki (Vivian Nishiki's father), Meteorito Jr., and Mike Haggar. Having an unusual motion sense, he was an active giant killer. He was familiar with several foreign organizations, calling various wrestlers from different countries to challenge him. He has a fan club that delivers Antler goods every month.[1]
Like Haggar, Antler also worked with politics after he retired from wrestling.[4]
Street Fighter 6
Antler is a NPC in World Tour that can be found flexing his muscles in front of Haggar's Memorial in Metro City to both inform visitors about Haggar and find challengers. He loves fighting, accepting challenges whenever possible, being a good source for exp.
Other appearances
Antler appeared as an Unit Card in the TEPPEN expansion Metro City of the Dead.
