Circuses are groups of travelling performers that often entertain audiences underneath a "Big Top". Acts as part of a circus range from acrobats, jugglers, clowns and other comedic and brave routines.
The circus has featured occasionally in Sonic the Comic. The most prominent one was Bob Beaky's Travelling Circus, a cover for the Freedom Fighters. Without a permanent base to live in, the heroes would travel in circus disguises and entertain villagers, particularly in and around the Emerald Hill Zone. They were forced to drop this act when Super Sonic destroyed the caravan.
Another travelling circus appeared in the Marko's Magic Football story. The circus had arrived in North Sterlington and was situated close to the Toy Tower. Marko had just been given the responsibility of defeating the evil Colonel Brown and visited the circus to acquire some help. However, the clowns at the circus also worked for Brown and tried to attack the hero. A hidden sniper managed to kill Marko but, thanks to an Extra Life, he was resurrected and vapourised both the sniper and a clown. He was forced to flee when more clowns chased after him.
Jetta Maxx of the Eternal Champions originally masqueraded as a circus trapezist but was killed when her act was sabotaged.
