Bonfirenight

Bonfire Night is an annual celebration that takes place on the 5th November in the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth countries. The celebrations are linked to Guy Fawkes' Night, where a "Guy" is burned on a large bonfire and fireworks are released. On Mobius, the "Guy" is replaced by effigies of Doctor Robotnik.

The event has been portrayed in a number of Sonic the Comic strips:

  • In Hot Legs, an anonymous benefactor (actually Doctor Robotnik) provides revellers with an enormous Robotnik statue to burn. It actually opens to reveal dozens of Badniks that attack the watching Emerald Hill folk, unsure if the goings on are part of the festivities.
  • Bonfire Night is a background event in Mirror Image, with both versions of Mobius preparing for the occasion. However, in one of the New Zones, the citizens are preparing to burn statues of King Sonic.

Elements of the night have appeared elsewhere in the comic. There have been several reptitions of the Fireworks Code, advising younger Boomers how to safely enjoy the fireworks. Issue 142 accompanied this with a themed Graphic Zone. The Bonfire Zone in Issue 237 allowed readers to create their own Robotnik Guy. In both this issue and Issue 244, Megadroid is pictured in front of a fireworks display with his own sparkler.

Trivia[]

  • Bonfire Night occurs at around the same time as Hallowe'en every year, with the spooky holiday usually beating the fireworks to the cover and Graphics Zone.
