There are two conflicting sources for this article: Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor and The Unknown Regions.

Lucasfilm has not established a cohesive timeline regarding this subject. Editor discretion is advised.

The Perann Nebula was a nebula located deep within the Unknown Regions. It radiated a scarlet glow due to the energy of the twelve stellar clusters with which it was associated, collectively known as the Nihil Retreat.[1] The nebula contained the planet Rhand, where the Sorcerers of Rhand have taken residence.[3]

Behind the scenes[]

Luke Skywalker and the Shadows of Mindor first established the Nihil Retreat as "twelve stellar clusters within" the Perann Nebula,[1] however, The Unknown Regions establishes the Nihil Retreat as forming "a protective bulwark around the Perann Nebula."[3] The 2015 update to the Star Wars: The Essential Atlas Online Companion simply stated the Perann Nebula to be located within the Unknown Regions. Lucasfilm has yet to provide clarification for this discrepancy.
