An akia was one of the four clans of Aramandi society. The four clans were the Cirra, Orma, Mila, and Lota. The central religious text of Aramandi society, the Eeronon, established the system and taught that while all Aramand must share the planet Aram and the Aramand system, they were destined to take control of another star system within the Aramand Cluster. Each akia worked towards the colonization of their chosen system. By the time of the Galactic Civil War, the Orma had established their colony and been in residence for several hundred years.^[1]

On Aram, each akia controlled their own cities and territories, with zones open to members of other akia and even offworlders. They also maintained private areas reserved for the members of the akia. The capital, Talerakia, was shared by all akia and was divided into four areas, each one controlled by an individual clan. All akia answered to a neutral ruler known as the Taal.^[1]
