Tactical Command is a basic challenge in StarCraft II.
The challenge has its focus on teaching the player what terran units to use to counter zerg units.[1]
Gameplay[]
- In-game Help Hint(src)
In the challenge the player have to defend three supply depots from attacks. The supply depots are located at three different locations, meaning you have to divide your army in thirds. The player have to study the enemy to calculate what unit would make the best counter. The challenge has three rounds. In every new round, the player gets new units, and have to counter a new mix of enemies.
Round One[]
In the first round the player is given the control over:
- 20 marines
- 10 hellions
- 2 medivacs
- 1 siege tank
- 1 ghost
The player then has to counter:
The In-game Help states:
- Zerglings are fast and deadly, but vulnerable to area damage. Use the hellion's area attack to destroy them.
- Banelings explode on contact doing heavy damage. Put your siege tank in siege mode to destroy them. Be sure to put your siege tank in front of your supply depot.
- Mutalisks have a bounce attack that hits up to three targets. Place medivacs over your marines. The medivac's healing compensate for the extra bounce damage.
Round Two[]
In the first round the player is given the control over:
- 9 marines
- 9 marauders
- 2 medivacs
- 6 siege tanks
- 1 ghost
The player then has to counter:
- 9 roaches to the northwest
- 1 ultralisk to the east
- 17 hydralisks to the southwest
The In-game Help states:
- Roaches are heavily armored, and regenerate their health very quickly. Marauders have an anti-armor attack that makes them ideal for destroying the roach.
- Ultralisk talons can hit multiple units at once. Use your marines to defeat this foe. The speed bonus from stimpack can help you stay out of the ultralisk's reach.
- Hydralisks are effective against air units and light vehicles, but vulnerable to area damage. Put your siege tanks in siege mode to destroy them.
Round Three[]
In the first round the player is given the control over:
The player then has to counter:
- 22 zerglings and 5 brood lords to the northwest
- 12 hydralisks and 9 roaches to the east
- 17 mutalisks to the southwest
The In-game Help states:
- Brood lords and zerglings: use vikings in fighter mode to kill the brood lords, and the hellion's area damage to kill the zerglings.
- Hydralisks and roaches: use siege tanks to destroy the hydralisks, and marauders to counter the roaches. Don't forget to put your tanks in siege mode!
- Mutalisks have a bounce attack that hits up to three targets. The thor's heavy anti-air batteries make it the ideal counter.
