I was twenty-five. I murdered a made guy in our own family; I'm here for a good reason, you don't need to help me.

Sally Moltisanti was the identical twin brother of Aldo "Hollywood Dick" Moltisanti, and the two grew up in Newark, New Jersey, eventually becoming associates of the DiMeo crime family. He had fond memories of his time outside of prison, remembering how his wife used to make a great trout during the Feast of the Seven Fishes. When he was 25 years old, he murdered a made man in the family over an unspecified dispute, being arrested for the crime and sentenced to life in prison. Due to the shame of his action, his family cut ties with him, and his brother forbid all his relatives from visiting him in custody. As he served out his time in jail, Sally grew to be a more thoughtful and wise individual, becoming influenced by Buddhism and getting a lot of reading done.[1]

Sally Moltisanti Meeting With Dickie The Many Saints of Newark

Sally after first meeting Dickie in prison.

In 1967, during the Newark riots, a grown Dickie Moltisanti, Sally's nephew, has an argument with his father Hollywood Dick and eventually beats him to death against his car's steering wheel, placing his body inside his old plumbing supply company and burning it down to make it appear as though he died at the protesters' hands. His murder fills him with tremendous regret and insecurity, and looking for answers, he schedules a visit with his uncle Sally in prison. When Sally is led to meet Dickie by a prison guard, his nephew looks at him confused, having presumably never seen him since childhood. Dickie first greets him and announces that Hollywood Dick is dead, having been "burned up in the riots". Sally rejects some sfogliatella from his nephew as he doesn't consume any dairy products. When Dickie begins stating how he considers it unfair that Sally has been excluded from their biological family, he interrupts and is incarcerated for the rest of his life.
