Carlos, played by Michael Matera, is a minor character on The Sopranos. He is Salvatore "Mustang Sally" Intile's friend who disrupts a hit on Sal through his godfather Robert "Bobby" Baccalieri Sr. and becomes collateral damage as a witness in the killing.

Biography[]

According to Sal, Carlos is an acquaintance of his who "fucks the lady whose house it is", referring to their shared residence on Staten Island.

A few days after Sally's unprovoked daylight assault on Bryan Spatafore, Sal hangs out with Carlos, drinking and smoking while watching television. They are surprised by a knock on the door, with Sally, being on alert for possible mob retaliation due to Bryan's brother Vito Spatafore Sr. being a made man in the DiMeo crime family, pulling out his gun and directing Carlos to check who it is. To Sal's relief, it's his godfather Bobby Baccalieri Sr., who he had been expecting to tell him how the mob decided his future regarding the beating. Seeing Carlos smoking, Bobby, suffering from lung cancer from being a chainsmoker, tells him to "quit while he's still young", to which Carlos replies "you gotta die from something". Sal tells Carlos to be respectful and to leave the room while he and "Uncle Bobby" talk. While Carlos goes to smoke in another room, Bobby asks his godson who the "little spic" is, but the conversation eventually steers back towards the topic of the Spatafore brothers.

When Carlos returns to the kitchen, he finds Baccalieri pointing a gun at Mustang Sally's head from behind. Carlos exclaims "Ho! What the fuck?" as Baccalieri shoots, but Mustang Sally has turned his head in response to the exclamation and Baccalieri misses his head, instead shooting off Mustang Sally's left earlobe. Baccalieri quickly turns and shoots Carlos in the abdomen, wounding and disabling him. Mustang Sally and Bobby engage in a hand-to-hand fight, each struggling to get their guns in position in order to kill the other. Baccalieri wins by shooting Mustang Sally in the side of the head, klling him. Baccalieri shoots Mustang Sally again in a coupe de grace as Sally lays prone on the floor. Baccalieri then looks at the injured Carlos and calls Carlos a "greaseball" and taunts him for "any more smart remarks", referring to his quip on death from earlier. Carlos pleads with Bobby not to kill him and tries to use a chair as a shield. Bobby shoots Carlos through the chair, this time ending his life. Bobby snickers after killing Carlos, then sits down and lights a cigarette despite his severe emphysema and being covered in Mustang Sally's blood and brain matter.
