The Spatial-Displacement Trap is an object that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by IDW Publishing. It is a floating trap created by Dr. Eggman to displace the atoms of its targets.
Description[]
Appearance[]
The first model of the Spatial-Displacement Trap was eight individual devices that formed a circle while floating in air. Each device was grey with yellow circles and made a green, electric glow once activated. Together, they created a green portal. The second model is twelve pentagon-shaped devices that are thin and colored grey with a black circle and a yellow X painted on one side, with the other side being the active part. When active, they glow green. When it traps its target, it creates a Regular dodecahedron.
Features and abilities[]
The Spatial-Displacement Trap is able to move at fast speeds through the air to capture its target. The trap will continue to follow its target unless disabled or destroyed. The first model was able to displace a target so they are in an invisible but semi-tangible state with reality. This model could also target multiple targets at once and have its portal active while pursuing a target. The second model is able to completely displace the atoms of a target as long as it is active. This model can only have one target and needs to surround the individual before activating its portal.
History[]
Urban Warfare[]
While Sonic and the Diamond Cutters were investigating the the tunnels of Eggperial City, a Spatial-Displacement Trap appeared. Sonic and Tangle recognized the portal's color as the same one that got them trapped in a digital world Eggman created. The group then ran for it as the trap followed them. They fought Badniks as Sonic pulled the group along, but the Diamond Cutters ended up in the trap.[1] They were put in a semi-tangible state with reality where they could see and hear what was around them, but couldn't interact or be seen or heard by anyone.[2] The group decided to use their state to investigate how to take down the city and went into the main tower, reaching the control room with Dr. Eggman and Metal Sonic. Due to Shadow overloading the power of the city by using Chaos Control, Eggman had to reset the power of the city. This caused the Diamond Cutters to be visible and be heard by others again. They were immediately spotted by Eggman, who concluded the power outage almost let them escape. He then summoned the second model to trap all of them. Whisper shot her Wispon at Eggman, but it went right through him and he explained her weapon was separated from normal space. A trap then closed in on Whisper and surrounded Tangle. Lanolin pushed Tangle out of the way and told her to tell the others of their plan and then got trapped herself. Another trap surrounded Tangle, but she fell out of the tower before it could trap her.[3]
Once she reached the ground, Metal Sonic and a Spatial-Displacement Trap chased after Tangle. Tangle was able to evade them and went to tell the other heroes in the city what the Diamond Cutters found out. Metal Sonic and the trap followed her and they attempted to trap Sonic, who dodged it as it closed. The trap then went to Silver, but Blaze used her pyrokinesis to burn the trap. Silver then broke the trap with his Psychokinesis. When Tangle was fighting in the main tower with Sonic, Tails, and Amy, another trap tried to capture her. Tangle was able to dodge it when the tower went into its mobile state.[4]
Dr. Eggman managed to get Sonic in a Spatial-Displacement Trap shortly after. However, this wouldn't be long thanks to Tails turning the city's computer systems offline. Lanolin, Whisper, and Sonic then escaped from their traps and returned to normal space. After Sonic and the others got out of the tower, Eggman declared the dimensional traps he made were a waste of time and energy.[5]
