The Slow Down Boots[2] (スピードダウンブーツ[3] Supīdo Daun Būtsu?, lit. "Speed Down Boots"), also known as Doctor Eggman's Deluxe Speed Down Boots (ドクターエッグマン特製・スピードダウンブーツ[3] Dokutā Egguman Tokusei Supīdo Daun Būtsu?), are objects that appear in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. They are a pair of boots created by Dr. Eggman that look like Sonic's shoes, but possess the ability to take away Sonic's trademark speed.

In terms of design, the Slow Down Boots look nearly identical to Sonic's shoes. As such, they are a pair of red-colored shoes with white cuffs, pointy toes, and white straps across their middles. They also have gray soles with the Eggman Empire decal, which is the only difference between the two pairs of shoes.
Features and abilities[]
The Slow Down Boots are made with the power of the Chaos Emeralds, meaning that should someone put them on, the only way to take them off is with the Chaos Emeralds' power.[3]
The Slow Down Boots are very heavy, which serves to drain Sonic from his speed and ability.[3] However, they do not inhibit the usage of the Spin Dash.
History[]
Sonic Labyrinth[]
In Sonic Labyrinth, frustrated at his constant defeats at the hands of Sonic, Dr. Eggman realized that Sonic always used his speed to defeat him. As such, he invented the Slow Down Boots, which were designed to strip Sonic of his agility and speed. In addition, he had them fashioned from the power of the Chaos Emeralds in order to make them irremovable without the Chaos Emeralds' power. The scientist would then replace Sonic's shoes with the Slow Down Boots while Sonic was asleep. When Sonic later awoke, he put the Slow Down Boots on as Eggman had intended. Soon after, Sonic noticed that his feet felt heavier than normal, and noticed Eggman's face on the Slow Down Boots' soles. Soon after, Eggman gloated about his plan across South Island, inadvertently revealing how to remove the Slow Down Boots in the process.[3]
Even while wearing the Slow Down Boots, Sonic realized he could still use his Super Sonic Spin Dash, which was unaffected by the boots.[3] By relying on this ability, the hedgehog was able to brave Dr. Eggman's Super Labyrinth where the villain held the Chaos Emeralds. Eventually, he took the Emeralds back from his nemesis and had the Slow Down Boots removed.
Trivia[]
- It is implied that Sonic still owns the Slow Down Boots, even long after the events of Sonic Labyrinth.[1]
