The Omega Care Unit,[1] also known as the Omega Peace Unit,[2] is an object that appears in the Sonic the Hedgehog comic series and its spin-offs published by Archie Comics. It is a special medical suit created by Dr. Ivo Kintobor to care for Buns Rabbot and negate the effects of her Neuro-Immuno Deficiency Syndrome.

Description[]

Appearance[]

The Omega Care Unit resembles E-123 Omega, except it has a sky blue color scheme, has green eyes, has the peace sign on both of its shoulders instead of just the capital Omega symbol (Ω) on the front of its left, has metal circles on its wrist instead of spikes, the triangle symbols with lines on Omega's arms and flaps are replaced with circles, and the care unit uses its claws along with stunning weapons instead of destructive.[1]

Features and traits[]

The Omega Care Unit's main ability is creating a stasis field that prevents Buns' N.I.D.S. from progressing and supports her immune system. It also has added battle abilities that were grudgingly included by Dr. Ivo Kintobor after Buns requested them. These include quick-hardening riot foam, soundwaves that make the victim dizzy, and added strength. It also has rocket boosters on the bottom of its feet and one on its back.[1][3][4]

Weaknesses[]

The Omega Care Unit's weapons are rather weak and not suited for intense combat. It also lacks strong armor. In addition, the Omega Care Unit's eyes do not allow colors to be seen properly by the user.[1][3][4]

History[]

Past[]

The Omega Care Unit was built by Dr. Ivo Kintobor as a last resort to prolong Buns' life after she developed Neuro-Immuno Deficiency Syndrome. In return for saving her life, Buns would use the suit as her means of protecting the doctor from invading forces.[1]

Otherside and Hedgehog Havoc[]

When Sonic and Amy used the Star Posts to travel to Dr. Kintobor's tower in hopes of finding assistance against the Suppression Squad, Buns initially mistook Sonic for Scourge due to the Omega Care Unit limiting her visibility of colors, and attacked him and Amy. However, Kintobor arrived and explained how Sonic and Amy were not invaders, prompting Buns to stop attacking them with the Omega-Care Unit. After Kintobor briefed the heroes on the world of Moebius following Scourge's takeover, Buns, Sonic, and Amy set off for Castle Acorn in search of Rosy the Rascal.[1]

The Omega Care unit was partially destroyed during the ensuing battle with Rosy upon meeting her when Buns tried to protect the stolen Globe Posts from Rosy and lost. Luckily, the suit still had some power left which Buns used to fly out of Castle Acorn and back to Dr. Kintobor's tower. Dr. Kintobor quickly repaired the suit, and Buns was later seen in it taking the stolen Globe Posts back to the doctor's tower with it.[3][4][5]

Trivia[]

  • The Omega Care Unit bares a heavy resemblance to E-123 Omega, who was introduced to the comics six months after the care unit's debut in Sonic Universe #3. Buns also mentions that she'd "rather have somethin' a bit more proactive, like a missile launcher", which references Omega, who is equipped with one.
    • Unlike Omega, however, the Omega Care Unit is not an intelligent robot, but a robotic suit of armor.
    • It could also be seen as a Moebius counterpart to roboticization, as it involves the placement of Mobians into robotic suits/shells, fitting more in-line with the version used in the games.
  • Originally, the Omega Care Unit's prototype design resembled E-102 Gamma more than Omega, but it was changed to Omega's over the years as "it seemed to lend itself better to housing a mobian, and it seemed much more apt for her [Buns's] character", as stated by writer Ian Flynn.[6]
