Nickelodeon is an American pay television channel that was launched by Time Warner Cable, Inc. (Warner Cable Communications at the time) in 1979, and currently owned by Paramount Global. Since its launch, the network has aired live-action and animated programming from a range of categories. The success of the network spawned several counterparts in some countries.

- The 1992 television show Nick Arcade showcased an early copy of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, sent by Sega. The copy was dubbed as the "Nick Arcade prototype" colloquially.[8]

- The 2020 Sonic the Hedgehog film occasionally airs on Nickelodeon. Scenes and lines that are at odds with Nickelodeon standards & practices are censored.
- Sonic the Hedgehog was nominated for two Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards,[9] while its sequel, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 won one.[10]
- Nickelodeon promoted Sonic the Hedgehog 2 during the network's broadcast of the NFL Wild Card game between the San Francisco 49ers and the Dallas Cowboys in 2022. Sonic and Tails appeared during the telecast and before commercial breaks.[11] Two years later Nickelodeon would promote Knuckles during their Live from Bikini Bottom simulcast of Super Bowl LVIII; during the two-minute timeout, Sonic, Tails and Knuckles appeared in the audience, with Knuckles catching and deflating a football thrown at him while Sonic rapidly ate a bucket of popcorn before handing it to Tails, much to the latter's displeasure.
- Starting on 12 December 2024, the official SpongeBob SquarePants YouTube channel began a livestream of various clips from the show, occasionally inserting Sonic characters and changing the art style to promote Sonic the Hedgehog 3.[12]
