Sonic no Jirai Sagashi Game (ソニックの地雷探しゲーム[3],Sonikku no Jirai Sagashi Gēmu?, lit. "Sonic's Mine Sweeper") is a mobile phone game released as part of the Sonic Cafe service offered by Sega. It was later made available through the Puyo Puyo! Sega service as well.[4]
The game plays identically to the well-known computer game, Minesweeper. The player must select spaces to clear, with many of them housing mines beneath them. Upon clearing an empty space, number will appear on the spots below. These correspond to the number of mines located within a three by three cell area around the given space.[3] There are also rocks placed around the grid, which cannot have any mines within their 3x3 area. The game is lost upon clicking a mine, so the player must be careful.
The game can be paused at any time so the player may resume at a later point.
Sonic no Jirai Sagashi Game features two different game modes to play:
Battle (段位戦[3],Danisen?): This is the standard, timed game in which the player can progress through stages. If the player manages to clear the board of empty spaces, their rank will go up and they will proceed to the next stage. This game mode features Dr. Eggman along the top of the screen.
Free (フリー[3],Furii?): Features no time limit for casual play, with there being both 9x9 and 14x14 options for the size of the play area. This game mode features Sonic along the top of the screen with a simple clock to his right, which counts up to keep track of time spent on the specific stage.
